How do you Launch your Z4 ???
Once in a while you are just driving around in your Z4 and then you notice this car next to you trying to RACE. Most of the time when I put the Paddle to Metal I am already rolling. When you are at a dead stop it is a whole different story. It is harder to launch the car with the SPORTS On. What technique do you guys use? Also List what cars have you raced and the result; also the fastest you have ever driven your Z4
Raced: 350z......................................Won S2000....................................Won 335i.......................................Won Merc 320 Kompressor................Won Mustang GT (New one)..............Won VW Golf GTI............................Won Honda Prelude.........................Won Honda Civic SI (2004ish)............Won Thats all I remember. The fastest I have driven my Z4MR is 152 /154 MPH. |

i don't really street race anymore as i think its dangerous and foolish, and i'm not ready to go to jail or kill someone on the road just to prove myself to some stranger in another car. I look back on the stupid shit i did as a kid and thank God i'm still alive, and out of jail.
That said, launching the car i keep it out of sport, traction control off, rev to somewhere about 2500-3000 and let off the clutch. i adjust with throttle and clutch to get as much grip as possible. I don't thnk i can crack off sub 5 second 0-60s the way the magazine hot shoes do.... |

I agree that street racing in foolish and not worth the risk. I control my self and if i do end up racing I just drag and thats is if it is open and not too many cars. i don't zig zag or keep the car at excessive speeds and other stupid stuff. Lets put it this way that I never drive in a way that I put others to risk. I don't even do it even if I have someone else in the car.
Thanks for the info on how you lunch. |

I dont race in straights on public roads, because its kinda pointless. However, on ramps are a different story.
And for me, launching consists of turning aids off, putting it in M1, and the rest the car can take care of. But I've only done it a couple of times (3 to be exact), once for a Boxster, E46M AA S/c, and a 997 Turbo (we chatted at a gas station, and gave me thumps up at a stop light, he also liked the Z4 and was trying to find a Z4MR for under 40k).

i tend to drive pretty fast but stil civilized. I love highway ramps. I usually test the ablilities of my tires there
As for launching in daily driving ill rev to 1k and slowly let of the clutch. I dont really put sport on that much unless im on the highway. Ive raced quite a few cars some my friends some with random people that want to play. Some of my defeats: MOdded Evo Highly Modded NA E46 Stock 997 turbo E60 M5 C55 AMG Modded B5 S4 |

Compared to my turbo cars, the my 3.0si is absolutely no problem to launch from just above idle in our steep first gear. I try to avoid situations where I'll be tempted to race, but find that wheelspin and DTC are my most limiting factors. I did beat up on a Subaru Legacy GT, but I felt real bad about it afterwards - he had a passenger/witness.

I Have been over 250 MPH many times at the drag strip in a C modified and that is where racing should be done, but sometimes like yesterday I get upset when some guys were talking between trucks in two lanes on the freeway going maybe 50 mph. I punched it and when the wife just happened to mention that I was over 100 I cooled it. I was so ashamed of myself.

Rev to 3000rpm, drop the clutch and mash the gas to redline, whilst power shifting and slamming through the gears.
Much fun.

After running AMS drag strip for a season. DSC OFF, 1st gear (tried a launch in 2nd, mucho burnt clutch smell), try about a 3k launch to avoid excessive wheel spin. The wheel spin thing is really hard to avoid, takes a lot a practice and knowing the surface you are running on
YMMV Fyi, if you run with DSC on, expect to get beat due to retardation of the engine because of wheelspin. It is a great safety feature for everyday driving, but it must be off if you are at the drag strip |
