Soon to be Z4 owner
Hey all, been looking at the Z4s for a while... Was going to go for a 328i vert but most likely will just keep my e46 325Ci...
Would love to hear some thoughts on this set of specs and also any tips on things to look for or ask about due to the miles 2004 Z4 3.0i 6MT Performance package (heated seats, memory buttons, power top) Sport Package (sport button yay!) ~89k miles 1 owner No major accidents (stated a small rear bumper dmg from a relative hitting it years ago) but has since been replaced All stock with maintenance records Paint on it looks super clean, everything looks good. He wants $11k, though maybe I can push for $10.5. Opinions? I don't mind waiting for a better deal, this one just seems really good for the price and features (I really want 3.0 + 6MT + SP) Thanks guy |

Hi Hokie,
That sounds pretty decent to me. Somethings to keep in mind: 1) That car has the M54 - I can't remember if that's got the electric water pump or belt driven unit, but the cooling system is the weak point on these cars. Has any preventive maintenance been done with respect to this? Usually around 100k, you will probably need to replace some things like hoses, expansion tank, etc. 2) Does the owner have evidence of proper maintenance? 3) Check the roof motor for proper operation - that's another weak spot. Other than the cooling stuff, I wouldn't worry about the mileage. The m54 is a very reliable motor. If the car drives well and you get a good feeling, I'd say it's a good deal. Where in MD are you? And does hokie refer to Viginia Tech? -gc |

Southern MD here, near the Navy base All of his work seems to be through the Richmond BMW dealership based on the carfax... I will specifically ask about the above though, thank you! |

Other than usual things to look for in a used car, the roof motor should run strong and roof mechanism should operate well. Also the starters on this generation seem to need replacement around 70-100k. Make sure it starts strong without hiccups. Check the battery compartment in the trunk to make sure there's no moistness or signs of water. It should be totally clean. Goodluck

REALLY sad when a seller says pristine condition and there's a huge gash on the interior door that was patched up with superglue
still in the market and getting anxious |

Everyone on here took between 2 months to 2 years to find their Z4. It's a hard car to come by in the specs and condition that you want, but if you are patient you will be rewarded. Don't buy a 128i just because you see one for sale, unless of course you need the back seat. Then you wouldn't have been looking at the Z4 in the first place. If your heart is set on the Z4 then be patient and you will be happy you waited for the right one.

I was really torn between a 2 seater and 4. Loved how the z4 drives but practicality kept reminding me about how I rarely just drive 1 person around. Ended up with a 128 vert and enjoying it (almost) as much as a z. Gotta keep it in the bimmer family regardless!
