Hi all... i'm responsible for "the other forum" popping up last week. I would just like to write a brief note about why I did it and where I am coming from with it.
I was (as a lot of people were) very p***ed off with the way the z4um situation was handled. This has been discussed already and we don't need to go over it again. I decided to register a similar name and put a concerted effort into making it a success. To address the comments about why we don't just come over here, I just don't see it as necessary. There have always been multiple forums for every kind of car and they generally co-exist very nicely. I certainly do not want to take people away from this (very good!) forum, but rather people can come and go as they please. I have some big things in mind for the new forum, but it's only 3 days old and have not had chance to implement them just yet. Hopefully in good time we will end up being the two leading Z4 dedicated forums. In my research I have been astounded at the animosity that has come from certain other forums, and it is refreshing to come accross this forum being so friendly. So... I hope that clears up any confusion... I hope to participate in this forum too, and I have no issue with this forum being mentioned over at the new one. My forum is intended to add to the community, not alienate people at all. After all, we're all in the same family! |

JMO, but it will only lead to a fragmented community.

each to their own... not looking for a fight here, but are you of the opinion that this board should not have formed either, as it was formed when z4um was "the best"?
Guess we won't be seeing you over there then? |

I wasn't sure it was ok to post the link so I didn't... Excuse the rough around the edges look to it... am skinning it in photoshop as we speak. Great board you have here by the way! |

One advantage ZPOST has over Z4UM is that you can hop over to the sister forums (E09POST, XBimmers, M3POST) and mingle with other BMW owners. Granted that most of the members there are still going through puberty, it's still refreshing to be able to read & learn about similar likes / dislikes of other cars in the BMW lineup.
There are a few other forums I lurk at that provide even greater model lineup coverage, but I return to ZPOST because it's very well organized. IMHO, I think there may be too many sites to look at (not good for my addiction) for just the Z4. I actually lurked onto your site yesterday, sp3ctre, and I think it's brilliant. Very well organized and remeniscent of the old Z4UM. I think only time will tell as to how it'll fit into the niche. Kudos to you for the efforts. |

Thanks Rick... I understand the views of those who say we should have one united forum, I do, but it just doesn't quite fit in with what I am looking to do... To be honest, if my plans don't work then people will vote with their feet, so only time will tell.
I completely agree with your sentiments though, this place is great! |

Actually, I'm surprised you didn't wait until the Z4UM domain expired... it would have been fair game to pick up the site since nobody would have laid claim to it. I'm guessing that Z4ce would probably be willing to transfer server data eventually (assuming it's not lost) for you to rebuild the site. If whatever that happened to his family had happened to me, I wouldn't be interested in maintaining the Z4UM site either. |

true, true... we'll see what happens if and when he returns... it would be good if we could get the old info though, it was a wealth of knowledge!

& yes, if there was ever a way to recover data, that would be fantastic!

Sometimes I get the feeling that the UK guys don't feel as comfortable being on American boards. Since the NA members outnumber them, I guess it's only fair that we should also visit on their turf to even things out.

I agree, there did used to be sparks flying quite often on z4um, but from he way I saw it most of it was because certain people didn't like the over-moderation of the board, was a little too "big brother". I intend to allow "intense debate" (not like mass debate!) over there and keep moderation to a minimum... we'll see how it works out... so far everyone seems to ba having a good laugh.
As for feeling comfortable here, I can see why.... if people want to stay here then that's fine, but any of you who want to visit z4-forum.com too from time to time are most welcome. Like I said, plenty of room for both of us in my opinion... I'll certainly be mentioning this site over there, as I think this place is great! |

Each site has something to offer but I wonder how anyone has the time to monitor more than one? Sometimes I get annoyed at myself for the amount of time I spend on this site alone. Speaking for myself I'll probably just visit one forum unless the present crew defects en masse.
