While I don't disagree with the posts in this thread (hell, I have been driving my E39 M5 for 10 yrs and had 2 E39s before that, and Z4M coupe since 2007), this conversation occurs with every transition to the new model, bar none.
I think the M division is still on track, despite its detractors. I loved the 1M and plan to add an F80 M3 or the upcoming M2 (if I can wait that long) to my M5 and Z4M. I think the F8X is a seriously fun car. Different than my other Ms? Yes, but still very fun. I couldn't stop grinning while driving one. While I don't agree with all of BMW's business decisions (and find the endless permutations of the F3X series and associated nomenclature faintly ridiculous) I want them to stay in business and independent. As mentioned in some of the above posts, this requires making cars that appeal to the broader market, especially China. When you think about it, it is actually fairly remarkable that BMW is still independent!
