Looking at a 2007 3.0si Z4 Roadster - questions

Hi Z4 forum.

Just joined to ask a few questions.

I'm starting to stare at a Z4 at BMW of Austin and thought I would see if there is anything I need to really ask them before I make any decisions.

It is Gray with a black top and black interior, Automatic (paddle shifters) Sport and Premium upgraded lights. I took it for a short drive and with the exception of possibly needing a slight alignment it rode just fine. All electrics seemed to work just fine. No squeal in the brakes, power was OK, etc..

Sticker said they wanted $34,500 for it but I figure I can walk out of there for a few less. Miles was about 21K (slightly larger but less then 22K) So it's not been heavily driven.

Thanks,
Bill

Yeah, seriously. Walk away. I bought a fully loaded 07 M with under 20,000 miles for 30,000 pre-tax. No accidents.

Sounds like about 9K too high. Go ///M for that price.

Even KBB lists it as "retailing" for around 31.5k, and they are notoriously high on these cars. Mid 20s is the most (as others have mentioned, M's are trading in the 30ish range); a similar one traded recently in the low teens, tho that was a private party distress sale. On Autotrader that car at Austin BMW is listed at $31.9k which is still high for a non-CPO car - if it is a CPO car then it's worth maybe $2k more.

Check Autotrader and Cars. com for other comparables in your region. Also search for the M roadsters even if you are not in the market for one (they are manual only, so if you need an automatic they won't do the job) as a comparison and negotiating tool - when new, the M's listed at about $10k more than an si. (Gee, I can get this nice M roadster for 30k - why should I buy your 3.0si for 32k?)

+1 price is WAY too high.

Do an auto trader search for a 3.0si to get a better idea on pricing.
If you need the auto , then the 3.0si is the right model for you.

Thanks everyone. I like the idea of looking at an M. No issues with clutch (current car is 6 speed manual and I have no worries).

Thanks for the info on the prices. I was thinking they would be much higher. Time to start to broaden my search!

Just for comparison...
I just bought my 2006 3.0si Roadster, 49k mi, for $23.5k plus TTL from a dealer, non-CPO in Dallas a couple weeks ago.

Price does seem way too high - I picked up a CPO 2008 3.0Si coupe with 17k miles for $28k

Thanks for all of the input!

Thankfully, I found this site as I have been reviewing a lot of threads and it's an excellent source of info! Some of the threads have answered a lot of questions that I have had, so it's been a good read.

I am in no hurry so I can look and look till I find exactly what I want at the price I can agree to.

Agreed. I bought a 2006 3.0si with 24k miles 18 months ago for just under $27k. $34k for a 3 year old 3.0si is insane.

Those people are completely out to lunch on the pricing.

Hell, buy this M for $10K less: http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=411103

Nice one here: http://www.roadfly.com/bmw/classifie...php?view=45873

It doesn't say it's a 3.0si, but if you look closely at the side badge, it looks like it says 3.0si. And those are si wheels. Nice, low mileage car that's loaded.

CPO Benefits

Also, if you're worried about the CPO benefits: 1) inspection, 2) extended warranty, and 3) extended maintenance.

Get a really good pre-purchase inspection.

Buy (or have the seller buy...some dealers will only sell to the original owner) the extended maintenance and warranty yourself.

Freude am Fahren (und weniger Spenden)...
