halo light out, how to fix?

I have the Halo lights for day running enabled. One of them has gone out and thrown the bulb out warning. There's nothing in the owners manual about how to replace them. Does anyone know?

I didn't think our Z4 had halo lights? I know there was a person that was installing them for people a while back... but I could be wrong about that I guess.

To my knowledge to get to that part of the headlight you have to take the headlight apart or just replace the whole housing. Our headlights are not very user friendly from what I know.

Our cars do have halo lights. To change the bulb, you'll have to take out the access panel behind the lights in the front wheel well. Do a search on this forum for light bulb changes - I believed there are quite a few threads on it.

Is this what you are looking for?

More details about how to get to bulb without taking car apart
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=727242

I guess they might have a halo of lit that is light by a lightbulb, but that is not what I think of as a halo light (led or something like that)

Mine went out a while back and I got a new bulb from the dealer. Well, I started looking at how to replace it and let's just say the bulb is still in it's box in a cabinet somewhere.

There's 2 ways, one is to remove the entire front bumper and headlight, then disassemble the headlight to get to the bulb.

The other way is to access the panel from the wheel well like XMetal said. Best way to gain access probably includes removing that wheel. After that, contort your arm/wrist/hand to reach in there and do the replacement.

I'm going to suck it up and pay a shop to do it next time I take the car in. More power to you if you're feeling handy and attempt to DIY

I've replaced many bulbs. You don't need to remove the bumper unless you're replacing the entire headlight.
In brief:

1) Park the car with the front wheels turned all the way so the side you need to replace has the front of the wheel turned OUT.

2) Use a nickle to turn the 2 plastic latches on the larger rectangular access panel in the wheel well.

3) Use a small screwdriver to pry the wire clip off of the notches in the back of the headlight rear cover, and swing the clip down.

4) Pull the bottom of the wire clip out of the hole, because it will still be in the way. Move it a little farther out of your way.

5) Remove the rear cover. No good advice on this, just keep after it and don't force it too much. It's like a puzzle box. You have to wiggle it just right to get it out.

6) Halo bulb assembly is pretty obvious. Turn CCW to remove and disconnect.

7) Not to try and one-up Ron, but I found it possible to notch the holder enough while the bulb was still in it, so I never had to cut one apart.
This is assuming you would rather replace the $1 bulb and not the $10 assembly.

Followed the instructions from StickMon. Worked great. I was also able to just cut two very small notches in the top of the plastic to allow the bulb to be removed. Everything is back in and functional.
