painting the key hole

I have considered painting the key hole black/matte black to match the rest of the car since the silver/aluminum sticks out like a soar thumb. Has anyone painted the key hole or covered it somehow to make it look like the other side? I've searched for this topic, but had little luck finding anything. I have a 2007 bmw z4 coupe 3.0si....THANKS!

Just after you cover the key hole, you will have an electrical failure that will require you to manually unlock your car (at least that's my luck).

This place: http://www.bumperplugs.com/BPindex.html has "door plugs" which will do what you want and can be removed if needed for emergency entry.

did mine yesterday with Plasti-Dip spray.. you dont even have to tape it off and if it gets messed up from a key, you peel it off and redo it..

I have been thinking of removing mine altogether!!!

It is broken so I can't use it if I wanted to =-(

I have had to get in the car manually before and I have found if you use the key in the hatch (bottom of emblem) you can reach up and pull the door lock post on top of the door! So no need to even have the door key...

Where do you see the door plugs for a Z4 on this site? Do they work well? Thank-you!

I think they are pretty standard. The Boxster one should work on a Z4, but I would just call/e-mail and ask them.

From the FAQ:

"I don't drive a Porsche. Will these products work on my car?"
Yes. Our original BumperPlugs™ and Door Plugs™ work on just about every make and model. Holes that are drilled into the bumper may have to be enlarged a bit (1/4" is the ideal size), but our plugs will pop right in. Door Plugs may require trimming to fit (do not force) but they do work on many makes and models. In addition, we produce flawless painted interiors and carbon fiber for all highline vehicles worldwide.
