Noooooo! Just jealous I can't do that, but torque doesn't always equate to better times. You're already faster than a crazy novice M3 driver Looks wise, imho, there is no comparison to your Z4M. Wait till that investment of yours blossoms and get a GT3

Great photos Johnny, Interlagos blue FTW!

BTW Im in line for a ride along if you do get that mustang

There's some bad habits that I think you ought to correct before the next event.

You need to be PATIENT with the turn-in. Way too early on alot of the turns, that's why your hands are always busy fighting the steering wheel. And you pinch your exit. Learn to unwind (if you're not early on the apex) after you crest a turn will allow you to get on the throttle earlier and therefore have better exit speed. All that see-sawing at the steering wheel may look fun and exciting, but it's only teaching you car control skills, not actual "go fast" skills.

Sorry. I had to comment on it. If you have the opportunity, take some events with DCi, Driving Concepts Incorporated. They're based in So Cal and will allow a few convertibles. Otherwise take some BMW CCA events at the local tracks. They may be boring and strict, but 2 days with DCi or BMW CCA will teach you more about driving fast than a dozen days lapping by yourself (or with crappy instructions from other orgs).

That, or they'll beat the bad habits out of you.

Thanks for the advice HACK! All constructive criticism is welcome! I was still kinda unfamiliar with the track on this run so some of my lines were a bit off. My lines got a lot better throughout the day. I also got some of that seesawing action out throughout the day as I dialed down the oversteer. Seems my car oversteers a lot according to instructors that hot lapped my car. It certainly explains why I had to be on my toes the entire time. I'll definitely try to get more instruction and seat time to phase out bad habits.

Ah. That explained alot.

One thing afforded me as an instructor for our organization, is we get a 15 minute "orientation" session every morning at each track, regardless of how familiar we are with the track. I can't tell you how much it helps to have that 15 minutes, or about 5 laps, at very slow speed (no more than 65 mph were the directive, or cool-down lap speeds), to get familiarized quickly with the track layout when we went to Chuckwalla for the first time. Also gives me an opportunity to bed-in the brakes and warm up the tires.

But even the most experienced racers will start out their weekend SLOW. I mean, top tier racers in F1 will shave SECONDS off of their time between the first practice to qualifying, and that's an eternity in F1. Especially with unfamiliar tracks, the slower I go in the first session usually results in faster lap times by the end of the day.

Thanks hack, I remember I sat in on one of the instructor orientation laps. I just listened while he narrated the different lines for each turn. Helped immensely that day.
