Driveshaft mount question Noob here.

Hi everyone I've been roaming on the forum but don't post much. Just recently picked up a Z4M with rebuild title and it needs extensive work. The first problem was that there was a clunking noise and I've found out that the mount holding the driveshaft broke off thus causing this noise. My question is in regards to this, is require to take out the driveshaft completely does only one end need to be loosen and pulled out? Also any advice on how to take out the driveshaft would be much appreciated.

That sounds very familiar.
The "guibo" is probably shot, too.
I think you have to take the whole thing out.
I've been looking at how to do it myself.
My guibo has some cracks and I want to replace that center carrier bearing and every other wear item while I'm in there.

I haven't figured it all out yet, or found a DIY.

yes, I actually bought the car from him. Been redoing everything as much as I can on the car. Believe it or not, only 27K miles and carbon trim. I actually looked today and the guibo or flex disc seems fine. Probably will have to take out the whole thing then.

I've done flex and CSB on other BMW models. It should be similar.

Remove any heat shield to expose drive shaft channel.
Place a jack under the tranny to support it.
Replace tranny mount bracket.
Mark the drive shaft with marker or whiteout. Make sure you mark the two shafts to keep the balance.
Unbolt the flex disc from the tranny. You'll probably need to make a couple of rotation. I unbolt the ones to tranny.
The drive shaft should pull straight out. You can remove the remaining three bolts to remove flex disc.
Remove the two bolts that mounts the CSB. Make sure you have something to support it or hang it to avoid putting pressure on the u-joints. You'll need a puller to separate the CSB from the half shaft. I picked up a set of puller from HF.

Reassemble is the reverse. Make sure you insert the bolt the right orientation. The flex disc have an arrow pointing the direction. Realign the mark is very important. Search for E36 flex disc replacement.

You might consider any shift linkage refresh while you have the flex disc out. It is much easier to replace any shift bushing. I suggest upgrading tranny mount at the same time. The most difficult part is separating the CSB from half shaft.

I'm planning on doing my before summer. Too many projects going on now.

Yes. I was hoping to take mine off recently to get a look at the condition of the CSB, but I was short some one-time-use bolts for the reinforcement plate and the tension struts.
I think the 4 in the rear reinforcement plate and the ones in one end of the tension struts are the same as the front reinforcement plate.
M10x35 IIRC. The ones in the other ends of the tension struts are M10x40.

The X-Pipe needs to be remove. I think it is easier to remove everything from section one intact. A helper or two makes it easier.

I was so tire last night couldn't think straight.
