How to remove buttons on steering wheel

Hi,

How easy is it to replace one of the buttons on the steering wheel in a 2007 Z4M? Do I need to remove center horn cover or do these buttons just "pop out" somehow?

Thanks.

You have to remove the steering wheel to remove the trim (where the buttons are). So you have to disconnect your battery, remove the airbag (center cover), unscrew the bolt in the centre, and then the steering wheel should come off. Then you'll see the screws that are holding the two side trim pieces in place. I'm just not sure though if you can replace each individual button or whether it has to be ordered in a complete set.

The buttons can be removed but I don't think you can buy them individually. The cheapst solution from dealer is to get the MFSW retrofitting kit that includes the buttons, cables and trim covers. The cheapest, more reasonable thing to do is to buy a new MFSW on ebay. I bought one last year for $80 shipped.

You do not have to remove the steering wheel. There is a Torx screw on the back that allows you to remove the button assembly, but you do have to remove the airbag.

Spiff, is correct. You cannot buy the button individually. You have to buy the assemble.

I did not have the buttons on my wheel and added them later. It took about 30 minutes total...
