Shifter knob won't go all the way in

I purchased 6-Speed Pattern(PN: 25 16 0 411 928) shifter knob and no matter how hard I push it, I can't get it all the way down.

Is there any way to do this? Any tricks? Suggestions?

This is really frustrating, there is always a 1 inch gap almost. Look at the pictures.

Wish I could help. I hate looking forward to getting something and then it doesn't work/fit. Hopefully someone here has a tip or two.

is there room inside for it to go more in? anything blocking the hole? seems like a simple measurement would explain the problem

you sure you slid it over the grooves? or there's no material caught in between the grooves?

Yeah it is supposed to go all the way down. It measures to match.

I think it stops before getting to the tongue in the knob. I can see the tongue in it and I line it up with the grove on the stick but it stops before even getting there.

I wonder if the knob is bad and it is narrower. Can I beat on the knob and not damage anything?

I wouldn't beat on it. You could damage whatever the shifter is connected to. I'm sure you've already applied enough pressure, and if it doesn't work, you should probably return it for a refund or an exchange.
