confirm this fender liner please?

Hi,
So my fender liner driver side is broken, and I want to buy a new one.

I saw on real OEM that the part number is
51717837559, but that costs $180!!!!

I saw on ebay people selling fender liner for z4, but is different part number (51-71-7-012-727) and it cost only $100.00. Can anybody confirm if this will fit my car?

Realoem.com

Use the last 7 digits of your cars VIN. It will pick up the correct set of diagrams for your car.

The eBay fender liner is for non-M euro E85s.

I can't think why the M is different, but we wouldn't have a different part number otherwise.

Here's photos of both part numbers. There are some notable physical differences, but the non-M part might still line up with the same mounting points.

I think the M liner has an opening for the brake cooling duct which isn't on the non M. This is why the M's don't have fog lights while the standard Z4's do.

What I don't get is why the two OEM liners above are $100 different in price. 127 for the standard and 233 for the M liner. That is a crazy "M" tax....

The volume of M liners made was much smaller than for the rest of the non-M fleet so the price will be higher. The cost for an injection mold for a part that size is around $200K. Just the tooling cost amortized across the non-M fleet is about $1 per part. For the M cars it's roughly $50 per part.

Only place where the fender liner is different on the Z4m is the rear passenger side (as far as I know) due to the dual exhausts.

The fronts are obviously different too. There are specific part numbers for the M.

The non-M has two openings in the front, one on top for accessing the headlight, and one below for the foglight. The M has the top opening, and a cut-through duct hole in place of the bottom one. Other than that I think they're the same.

Resurrecting a really old thread.

Looking at front fender liners for my M coupe. I previously had a too large tire on and before I could switch them, did a lot of rub damage to the liners. I figure while I have it apart to do some suspension work I may change the liners out.

So I have compared the listed as "with M" vs "without M" versions of these as much as possible. It seems to me you essentially pay more for less with the M version. They look identical to me aside from that forward, lower access panel/hole which on the non-M is a solid panel to provide access to the fog light and on the M this panel is there but with a cut out for air flow to the brakes.

On the M version of the replacements, the lower panel is not just included at all where on the non-M version, they include the cover. It looks to me that on these replacements they just include the M specific lower panel with the cutout, just leaving it out entirely. So, you pay more for less essentially.

I am probably going to pick up a pair of the non-M versions to see first hand if they will work and if so, just swap over that lower filler panel from my original liners.

Any one have any more recent experience with this?

Any update as to whether the non-M version will fit the M?
