FTM not TPM
Quote:
FTM stands for the Flat Tire Monitor. As air leaks, tire pressure decreases, and the tire rotates faster. ABS sensors on the wheels detect a change in wheel rotation speeds, which signifies a change in the roll radius, or pressure level, of the tires. A warning light in the instrument panel notifies the driver of the pressure loss. In case of significant pressure loss, a warning buzzer sounds. TPM - Tire Pressure Monitor. Basically a two piece item, a special air valve as well as a module that is on the inside of the rim and connects to the valve stem. This unit monitors the actual pressure inside the rim. (This was introduced in the 2007 model year) On FTM-equipped cars, the valve stems are the old rubber type; on TPMS cars, they're metal.

This is what it looks like. There must be a battery inside there but it's sealed, battery is not replaceable. It attaches to the special metal valve stem with a little Allen screw. As noted above, these were not used until beginning in the 2007 model year. They are compatible with some aftermarket wheels but not all, so it is a good idea to check first before buying wheels if you have this system on your car.

TPM Red Light
I'm driving a Z4 2.5 2003. I have my FTM light in Red color. I turn the key to second(still engine off) then press and hold the (_!_) for more than 10seconds and light is still in red color.
I have checked the tire pressure and the pressure is balance, also I inflate the tire base on the given table on the side of the door. |

The DSC unit does the FTM processing. Because you cannot reset the light, you have a hard issue. You need to take the car to someone who can read all the BMW modules (the DSC specifically) and find out what the error code is.

I'm from a small town whereby there is no BMW specialist. We only have workshop with computers that can diagnose few brand of vehicle.
I have had my Z4 diagnose but he says he could not check any problem. Also he can't clear the FTM warning red light. I actually had my rear brake pad changed. Will that be an issue on FTM? |
