Recaro Sportster CS's in a Z4?
Has anyone mounted a set of Recaro Sportster CS's in a Z4 or Z4M? The measurements look like it will work, but I haven't seen any pics or posts from any who has done this.
Thanks, Walter |

I really like the pricing and weight of NRG CF bucket seats, + adding custom leather to them, but everyone says they're flimsy

WTF? Are you guys sure they weigh 33 lbs.? That's ridiculously heavy for a bucket seat
My old Sparco Revs weighed 15 lbs., and my new Sparco Pro2000's weigh just over 16 lbs. Stock heated and powered M seats weighed in at almost 60 lbs. each (just for reference). Floor mounts are additional weight, but are only a couple pounds total. I use Macht Schnell E46 M3 fitment floor mounts, and then rely on Sparco sidemount brackets to secure onto the Macht Schnell. Not sure if the Recaro CS is bottom-mount or sidemount |

If you shall install the seats with the BMW floormounts, they will not fit spot on. The BMW floormounts are narrower than our Z4s. So I had to custom build new brackets. If you use the recaro floormounts its maby easier. The BMW floormounts is just as solid as the original seat, so its really heavy. But it feels like BMW could had fitted the seat. This seat has the airbag fitted for E92 and 1series. In the Z4, its no space for them. Besides the Z4 have the airbags in the doors. So I had to order a cover from Recaro for non airbag sportster CS seat. After taken off the airbags, I waited 3 months for the covers from Recaro The Seat occupancy sensor plug does not match, they are different on the E92. I`m sure they with the heat plug can be modded to fit the Z4, but I`m afraid that the seat can get a electrical failure and catch fire or something. So I bought this bypass occupancy sensor on ebay, and this works verry well. Alcantara isn`t that could to sit in either A member on the german Z forum have installed the Performance seats in his Z4 3.0 roadster as well. He asked me alot of questions before the install, but was surprised over all the work to fit the seats. He used Recaro floormountings.

bmwZ, thanks for info and pics... Those seats look amazing!
Just out of curiosity, what do they cost in Germany? The Sportster CS's are aroud $1800 USD in the states. I'm asking because I frequently travel to Germany on business. It might be worth it to buy a set over there and fly them back myself. |

I don`t live in Germany so I do not know the price. But I checked UK pricing before I bought the BMW Performance seats. I think the cheapest was 1200 USD for each seat. But then it`s no real leather. The performance seats in genuine BMW leather and alcantara, airbags, heating and stronger mountings is really costy Here in Norway with 25% VAT they cost 3750 USD each

Sorry about that, the Norwegian flag on your profile should have clued me in.. :-).
$3750 is crazy.. you can buy a Kia for that kind of cash :-). There is a set of the BMW performance seats on ebay for $5400 for the pair: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT |

$5400USD a pair isn`t that bad... When it comes to the original M seats, they are sportier to sit in than the Performance seats that are softer. But PS is wider in the back, I find the M seat to narrow in the seat back. I have to admit that I bought the seat because of the looks

It just depends if the tradeoff(s) are worthwhile to the end user. But obviously bucket seats aren't for everyone. My take on it is only get 'em if you truly need them and can put them to use. Otherwise unfortunately would be labeled as more of a poseur |

since you're dropping a lot of weight with 16lbs seats, the benefits allow you to "put them to use" every time you take the car out for a drive, IMHO
