replica wheels?

Hi, I'm from Istanbul and I just have a monaco blue coupe, 3.0 si, 2007.

I need to change its wheels(original bmw wheels) because its been cracked.

I want to buy same wheels from authorized sellers in Turkey(Borusan), they said its coming from Germany and price is about 2200 euro for all(four).

I ask price of replica wheels from another seller and its price is about 400 euro for all.

It would be any problem if I buy replica wheels?

There's potential issues with quality and weight.

Someone in the classifieds are selling used Z4M wheels. I would buy used OEM wheels before I bought new Reps.

I do and they look great but are a little heavier and the paint surface is not really tough OR resilient so prone to chipping.

I am considering after repairing the chips to re-clearcoat all

Thanks for your replay.

What do you mean saying chipping? Does it mean cracking?

Little nicks or chips in the paint from rocks on the roads or a lug wrench when taking the wheels off - little marks through the paint

dear drbvac,

I think chippings in the paint is not important. The most important think for me is the security. I wanna be sure of that which one is most secure, replica or original? Because in Turkey roads are so bad so steel wheels generrally breaking or cracking. Some people make broken wheels swet out but I think its not secure.

I prefer to buy new one when wheel break.

BUt I can not decide replica or original.

Well if the roads are so bad that complete breakage is the problem - I would use plain steel wheels with really tough tires - go with a smaller diameter wheel and higher profile tires to help absorb the bumps

tires are pirelli p zero run flat, 225/40/18 front, 255/35/18 rear. Tires are new. I think tires are very tough as you said.

As for wheels, they are original but broken. I'm afraid of them when I'm in the high speed.

What kind of wheels should I buy? Do you recommend any model?

Are the wheels actually cracked >? They can be repaired with the right equipment.

Original wheels are among the best made and many switch to the aftermarket or replicas to change the look - they may not be as good as originals but they look "better" to the purchaser.

I have no idea what makes or types you can get where you are - I have 4 original wheels with new tires on them off my M coupe in the basement and the ones on the car are new CSL replicas because I wanted 19" wheels and love the look - BUT - they are not as tough as the originals in terms of finish - PLUS its next to impossible to get touch up paint the exact colour and then you have to clear coat the whole wheel - just did one - not bad job - If I thought the new paint was tougher I would do all the others but it is a lot of work and always the potential for them to look worse than when you start.

Check around for good used BMW wheels if you don;t mind the look

Dear drbvac,

"Are the wheels actually cracked >? They can be repaired with the right equipment. "

Yes, it was actually cracked(four wheels). Because the wheels used for 6 years. When I bought the car I did instantly get the wheels sweated out by the service. But I dont trust repaired wheels, I'm really worry about it.

------------------------------

You did good explanation. Original wheels are the best. I would buy original wheels but it cost €2200. What about replicas: only €400

I ask here replicas because I wonder user of replica wheels are satisified or not? Replica wheels life is long or not?

If I can sure its not to be cracked easly I will buy replica in this case.

Sorry I musnderstand - you will get what you pay for - aftermartket wheels by BBS, Ronal, ENkei, Volk are good but you will find they are expensive as well -

HEre is a link to the toughest wheels

I know the ones I bought were 2000 CA including Hancook 19" tires

Aftermarket - not made by the car manufacturer - made by an independent company that only makes wheels -- RONAL, BBS, ENKEI, TVR, ETC

Thanks drbvac, I check with the sellers in Turkey and there are only BBS wheels, others are not imported. BBS wheels are also expensive as BMW original wheels.

It seems, my final decision might be replicas in this case.

Once I get new wheels I'm gonna put my picture soon.

best regards.
