I don't know if it can be done without a GT1 or knockoff.
You can read/set it with DIS.
Mine's a 4 digit code. Luckily the previous owner wrote it on a Post-It note and stuck it in the manual.

Is it still under warranty? The dealer can take 5-10 minutes to plug in their GT1 and get you the code, but they like to charge you as if it were an overhaul.

Or read it off the label in the BT module in the trunk - this same question comes up regularly, google the relevant terms and you'll find LOTS of posts on how to get at it.

It's behind the driver on the trunk side, on both the M and non-M cars. Again, if you do a little searching you'll find lots of pictures, instructions, etc. on how to access it and get the pairing code ('PK' number) from the label.

for those with same issue and maybe unable to locate the code, you can reset it with a BMW scanner v 1.4

If you bought the car from a dealer with CPO, then I would INSIST that the dealer thaqt sold you the car get you the 4-digit bluetooth code at no charge.

Without the code, the bluetooth feature is as useless as if the unit had failed, and that is simply contrary to the spirit, intent and letter of buying a CPO car.
