4.10 Diff Installed (Love it!)

Just got my Z4M Coupe back a couple days ago from Rhom Innovations, who swapped out my stock diff for the freshly rebuilt lsd with 4.10 gears from Turner/Diffsonline. Trying to take it easy for now (1200 mile break-in period), but so far I'm absolutely loving it! Was a bit nervous as it's not a cheap mod unless you happen to know how to rebuild the diff yourself (or have such a friend in need of a few beers). But I'm convinced it was worth every penny.

Car still sluggish at low rpms (it's not a miracle worker), but definitely pulls harder through each gear and lets you get into (and stay in) the powerband a lot quicker. Haven't launched it hard, tried any high speed pulls, etc., but I'm looking forward to pushing this harder after the break in. Don't know what it will do to gas mileage, but don't really care. Definitely notice the new shift points, but nothing negative to say about that. Just shift more in town (which is fun) and find myself cruising the highway in 6th instead of 5th. And as for those who've said 1st would be unusable, I'm not sure what you're talking about. In any case, I'm loving this car more and more every day, and much more than I ever did the stock Roadster I used to own.

Thanks to all on this forum who've posted their experiences and especially to those who've answered my questions. This is really a great community.

So now I've done the following: AFE Intake, SS Powerloops, 4.10 Turner/Diffsonline LSD, RE tranny mounts, CDV delete, ZHP shift knob, Dansdecals reflector covers, black grill, and stubby antenna.

Next week my new tires will be mounted on the Apex Arc-8's, and later this summer I'm looking forward to adding the DKF Section 1 + new headers (tbd).

Other possibilities include a tune (likely ESS or AA) and suspension updates (perhaps H&R coilovers). Then I think I'll be all set

Sounds good. I'll be interested to hear more about what you think after the break-in period since this mod is on my long term to do list. Speaking of the break-in period...CRAP! It'll take me forever to get to enjoy the car again!

4.10's sounds like it would make the car a blast. The s14 goes down the freeway at 80mph at 4000 rpm's. It can't be worse than that.

I'm anxious to get through the break-in, so I'm driving around more than usual, and probably best to give the new tires a break as well. Hopefully in a month or so I'll be able to report back...

It is a blast 70mph is just a hair over 3000 rpm in 6th.

I know others have found ways to do it for less, but I bought a freshly rebuilt M LSD with polished 4.10 ring and pinion ($195 up-charge for polish) from Turner for $3270 including a $750 core deposit. Paid local shop about $320 for fluid and install. Decided to keep my stock diff and forego the core refund in case I want to swap back for resale, otherwise I'd be in for about $2820 total.

Just checked Turner's website, and it seems that the same setup now runs about $200 more. For those who may not know, Turner has the work done by Dan at Diffsonline. In fact, my diff shipped directly from him. Also, the pricing on Dan's website is no longer accurate (no page for E85/86 M, look up E46 M3), and he told me that a new website with new pricing is on the way. Price he quoted me was comparable to Turner's new price.
