Not near my roadster right now, so can't verify, but I don't recall being able to (and certainly never have) used my key to open the trunk - I don't think the trunk even has a key cylinder.

Are you guys speaking specifically of a coupe here?

My 2006 does, but I've never used it, either.
Post facelift, BTW.

Yes, both integr8tr and BGR have coupes. But my 04 roadster also has a keyhole in the trunk lid. The facelift roadsters have no keyhole? That's strange...

That's pretty funny, I never noticed the coupes had no keyhole. I guess that's a part of what makes them look so aerodynamic.

All facelift roadies have a key hole.
At least my 06 M did....

They do, press the BMW badge and the key hole will apear on the bottom side. Like magic.

Are you serious or joking? I used to have a Nissan Altima in college that had a hidden keyhole. You had to slide the Nissan badge upwards to reveal the keyhole. I thought it was the coolest thing back then (before convenience key became an option).

anyone remember when the fuel fill hole used to be behind a flip spring loaded license plate door on the rear end?

Here's an even further blast from the "way back machine" past - remember when you dimmed the lights by tapping a switch near the left foot dead pedal? I actually liked that better than the steering wheel stalk levers of today.

Yeah, but that foot switch would sure come in handy today because it's so damn hard to dim your lights while eating, shaving, yapping on the phone, texting and switching radio stations at the same time. I guess that's why we sure as hell never signal lane changes anymore. Great improvements though.

OMG there IS a keyhole under the rear roundel when you hold it in! I can't believe the trouble I went to and almost broke the emergency release handle to open it...

And use the gas cap to prop the license plate open while filling.
And the high beam switch gets really hot and burns your foot while driving barefoot in a '62 bug running on 6 Volts.

Geezing.

Finally unwrapped the roadster and confirmed - yes there's a key cylinder hole, but (and this is what I was mis-recalling) there is no handle/latch to manually open the trunk without either 1) using the key in the cylinder or 2) using the key to remotely press the unlatch button or 3) pressing the button in the cockpit floorwell.
I understand the coupe's have the 'hidden' latch under the roundel.
I wish the roadster did.

I'm serious, I have that on my Coupe anyway. Don't know if the US cars are different in that regard.
