I had one in my E46. Nav was excellent, especially with the software upgrade, the radio was ok except that the display would only show 8Khz AM European increments, Bluetooth was basic, no address book with the iPhone, and the iPod interface was terrible. I read that it has improved since I bought mine, but know what you are getting into.

Garage List
After reading this thread on v5, I would definitely retrofit a dynavin over my existing stock navi...

^ Yeah, Jeff is the man. I spoke with him about other platforms and he mentioned they are *trying* to expand more and more, so its a 'time will tell' thing...hopefully they give it a go for the Z.

I would like one too, maybe push the vents to sides and use large/tall center unit.

Stock...

Vent/Vent
Stereo

Would be cool..

VeSterVe
nteont

Or Vent Stereo Vent

If that makes any sense, I would then make my old nav hole a POD cluster =-)

I'd be down for either options. Especially if they make it easy to integrate into the dash ex: have the face of the unit larger then it's footprint to easily cover the hole that needs to be cut in the dash so it doesn't have to be an extremely precise cut. That with a DIY would be great. The main option for me is if it'll work for dsp and non dsp cars. Mine is dsp and I want in dash nav badly. There are also a ton of other companies producing these units at almost identical quality for cheaper. Possibly one of them would take on the idea. Although there's not a lot of z cars/enthusiasts there isn't much competition with parts for these cars so there is definitely money to be made.

+1 on the OEM nav sucks out loud.
Here's the sticky wicket:
1) OEM nav is integrated with the stereo head unit. Only way to use the stereo.
2) I'm quite satisfied with the premium 10 speaker stereo with the DSP.
3) I LOVE the integrated bluetooth through the stereo using the mic on the steering column. Can actually have a conversation with the top down on the freeway.

Here's the big one:
This $800 solution would have to compete with just leaving the OEM system as-is and adding a $350 Garmin Nuvi. Have Nuvis in my other 2 cars. Love 'em.

I email the company regarding the DYNAVIN D99 that is specific made for the x3 and this is what I got.
"Hi i am very interested on buying the Dynavid E83 unit, I know that is made for the x3, but I was wondering if I can install that on my 2005 bmw z4, since x3 and z4 use the same factory stereo. thanks..
Fernando Gonzalez"

"replaces the cubby hole in the dash....it doesnt replace the stereo. So while it might be possible from an electrical perspective, the physical fitting would be a total custom job."

Thanks,

so I think for $499 it is worth trying, is a win win situation.

The upcoming iOS6 mapping will work for me. The existing (iOS5) Google maps implementation is a little weak, but with iOS6, the iphone, Parrot Evolution BT, steering wheel control harness, and Mediabridge ipod interface I'll have a full voice integration nav system (turn by turn nav, and voice control), as well as full MFSW controls, music, high res graphics, extended SIRI support for voice control telephony, texting, searches, apps, and a lot more.

iOS6 Mapping

I've also built the Parrot BT microphone (for BT phone and SIRI access) into the existing steering column mic housing - so between that and the SpecDock iphone mount, there are no external mounts, wires, or clutter that looks any different from OEM.

I like this concept of simply plugging in a new 'brain' and advancing the car's feature set exponentially ...

The biggest issue is DSP. I wonder if the Dice DSP adapter with this might solve the issue of it working or not. I also don't know about the physical aspects of it either without seeing the unit. That being said, my screen is going all funky so I am totally willing to take the hit to give it a shot.
