Super Blue brake fluid deemed illegal

Notsureifserious.jpg

But seriously US? They banned it...because it's blue. Took 15 years to realize that Super BLUE fluid is in fact, BLUE.

I don't understand. What difference does the color make? I noticed the GReddy 0W60 oil I put in my car last week is also blue in color. I wonder if it will also be banned? The nanny state we are in is making me sick...

Type200 is the same specs as the SuperBlue, except for the color. People like to alternate between the two to make flushing easier.

TYP 200 is Super Blue dyed Amber.

Ordered 2 liters of Super Blue and 2 liters of TYP 200 via ebay

It was never approved for use regardless.

The letter says that the law was put in place so that people could know what colors go in what reservoir. However, they use several different colors for coolant. Power steering fluid could be red (AT fluid) or I've seen it brown or green as well. Very little logic behind this law. Sounds like the law was made by someone that doesn't know $hit about cars.

You also have people in government science boards who don't know science and gun control boards that don't know anything about guns. Politicians aren't always the brightest people.

I just did some webearching on the topic of shelf life of unopened brake fluid stored in a metal container. Informed industry suppliers to chemists to shade tree mechanics say "forever" to "3 years". My fluid change in the Fall will be to amber and then every two years will get me out 6 years if I buy one can of blue. Don't know if it's worth it to buy a second can of blue and use that 6 years out.

Thoughts?

This is starting to remind me of "sponge-worthy".

Hmmm, is my car still blue-worthy, or should I save it for my next car??

Apparently this is true because all of the online sources that I would normally buy this from have pulled it. What I wonder is what triggered the government to do something like this on a product that has been on the market for 15 years. I wonder whether someone that was a competitor of this product decided to "blow the whistle" in the hopes that people might throw business their way. Hmmmmm?

It was never approved by the DOT for the 15 years.

It is blue, simple as that...that is why it is illegal now. TYP 200 is the SAME PRODUCT, so blowing the whistle would remove that if something was wrong

^^^Yeah I did some searching around (after I posted this thread) and it's already been stated that the TYP 200 is the same. I just liked it BECAUSE it was blue.

Oh No.
It just dawned on me that I have purple oil in my trans. Is this allowed?
Is there a dot_gov site where we can see all the color rules?

Wait, if I go there the NSA will track my activity and send a DOT inspector to my house.

We're all doomed. And we can't even drown our sorrows with a Big Gulp.

What if ATE sold a dye to add to the fluid. The fluid itself wouldn't be sold dyed so that could possibly get around the law. I can imagine some stupid tuners trying to add blue food coloring to their brake fluid now though.
