painting the grill question!

Hi, for those who have painted their front grill matte black, what kind of paint do you guys recommend? I am trying to do this for my grill, but don't know what brand/type paint i should buy. Thanks in advance!

I wonder if the grille would look good if it is painted to match the color of the car, in my case, Maldives Blue.

Never seen it done before; usually people do, black, chrome, CF. I've seen people have body match grill rings (the chrome ring around the actual grills) but not the whole assembly including fins.

You can get the grills done to color match your car at any reputable body shop... it'll cost you around $150.

AtoB: Good point but there arent a lot of Maldives Blue anything around here, where i live. i have seen only 2 others. Both of them were Z4s but i think they were the same car, on accout of, i saw one in another city and one near where i work. Good idea, I'll give it a shot.

What did you have in place of the grills while you were waiting? "open mouth" look huh?

thanks for all the input I am going to check out a paint shop and see what they quote me first before deciding if i should just DIY. If its fairly cheap, will probably just get it done at the shop.

Bavarian Auto sells them for $59.99 for the pair blacked out,

they won't allow a link directly to the page with them for sale so either do a search for "grill" or select your car as a Z4 and look at parts for it,

Sure you will find it

That is just the trim around the actual grill. I think non M grills are lighter in color so we might need to paint match anyway I am calling my dealer about it tody but not getting my hopes up, I think it might be a while.

It would be nice if I could get it done while my car is sitting in a car cover though, probably only one more month of that nonsense!

M grills are black, the same as all other black Z4 grills,

Only the 3.0's from 03-05 and 3.0si's from 06 on got the silver ones,

(USA anyway)

I think the overlay would solve your problem of having to paint them

I used satin black trim paint from a local body shop supplier to paint my rear view mirror shells and the bottom of my rear bumper. Cost about $15 a can, and well worth it. Use primer, even though it's not 100% necessary with this type of paint. It seems very durable so far.
