the top one is a NAV unit only available in europe.

the lower is the CD head unit used in most US cars.

The small rectangle in the middle is the display.
Navigation is by arrows in the (monochrome) display and distance to the next intersection.

Not really. The Z8 used the MKII or the last model MKIII. I saw both in Z8's.

Nav Business in the Z4 uses the same computer like the Nav Professional MKIV.
My 2005 had the business unit by mistake. I ordered CD radio with Bluetooth and no CH changer. I received a Nav Business with CD changer and no Bluetooth.

Why is this not surprising and so sad at the same time.

I'm really disappointed with the BMW Business CD. It doesn't play an MP3 disc, while a 5-series of the same year does.

+1

I know it will not work with CDRW. Only CDR disc works for MP3.

I was using a CD-RW! I will try CD-R next time. Thanks! The 5-series will play the CD-RW, btw.

One thing I don't like is folders do not work. I don't know if I need to create folders like CD1..CD6 to skip to the folders. You can imagine how difficult it is to forward to the artist/songs you want to listen.

This is the thing that I don't like about the BMW iPod Adapter that was installed by the original owner. Since it uses the CD changer interface except with playlists 1-6 on the iPod instead of real CDs, every time you select a "CD" it starts the corresponding playlist from the beginning. Because you can have way more songs in a playlist than you ever could on a regular music CD, it gets old quickly.

"CD" #6 is ever worse because it plays all songs on the iPod, only you can't use random. It goes through every song alphabetically. This is one of the reasons that I retrofitted an AUX input jack in my '06.

I'll probably go with third party interface with Pandora in the future.

2005 and up radios should play MP3 CDs. The silver faceplated radios in the 2003-2004 can't, the black radios from 2005+ can.
