Z4 Aftermarket Steering Wheel (aka PITA)

Hi All,

Thought I'd start a thread to vent, because there isn't much info out there. I'm installing an aftermaket steering wheel and have hit a wall because I do not want my SRS Airbag light on. I've found a couple of threads (AFTER MUCH GOOGLING).

This is the thread you want:
http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=484342

ANYWAY. I've installed the resistors that came with the wheel, but I think I did it in the wrong order with the battery as now I've got the airbag light that won't go off.

So now I've bought this:
"BMW-USB-OBD-Diagnostic-cable"
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/BMW-USB-OBD-D..._qi=RTM2247625

So that I can reset my stuff. I'm not that peeved because this software will be usefull or at least fun to play with in other ways.

I'll keep you up to date on the result of the install and some information about what to do or not do at some point. I'm just frustrated because what was generally easy for install, is just taking that extra bit longer.

cheers.

Steering wheel, seats, etc... anything interior race related is a PITA in this car. Curious to see how it turns out. I really wanted an aftermarket wheel but modifying the hub seemed like a pain so I just ended up reupholstering the factory M wheel in alcantera.

aftermarket wheel in this car is serious PITA.... I'm pretty sure you will have to relocated the airbag and wiriring to a different location to get the airbag light off..... which imo is totally nuts thing to do, but thats what people are doing to get this to work.....

the stock wheel is luckily one of the nicest OEM wheels I've come across, with some simple re working it really is a beautiful thing to behold!

I'm confident I won't need to relocate, I'll keep you posted.

Between software and resistors there's a way.

This is only the only way.

I had this working with software and resistors. But made another modification (can't remember what but unrelated to the wheel) and didn't disconnect the battery. Upon startup the light came back. I haven't made an effort to try all over again. It's a good reminder to not drive like an idiot.

The first post of this thread is the solution I followed. Resistors are 2.3 - 2.5 ohm.
