Haha it's true, statements like the one you made are what causes the outbreak if misinformation, regardless of when it was started (and why should this even matter by the way? It's as if you're now trying to push the fault to someone else: "Well I wasn't the one that said it...all those people from years back did. I'm just repeating what I've heard from others". What? So just because it's been a certain way for a long time makes it fine?).
And you missed my point too lol. How do you explain the anomolies? How can you say for certain that all DynaPacks read higher than DynoJets if there is sufficient evidence that shows otherwise?

Oh well, it's related to the tunes anyway. OP and others wanted to know the gains per tune, and that's where the dynoes came in; without which we would have no concrete data to go by.

I believe all of the tunes now have cables for "remote"/DIY tuning as an option.
Is this true?

Is any of the software made so that I can hook my car up to a dyno and tune via my personal computer timing, fuel, codes etc.?

If any of you guys are from the lsX world something similar to HPtuners/EFIlive type software is what I'm thinking about.

Actually, I had emailed AA last night.

They said that there is a difference between the S54 M3 tune and the S54 Z4M tune because BMW had changed the ECU settings between models.

They fixed a lot of things for the Z4M, so he said that an over the counter tune would work just as fine as a customized, car specific tune. Here is his email:

"The Z4M does not have quite the feature set on tuning that our E46 M3 tuning does. The DME hardware was changed between cars and uses completely different programming. The newer hardware in the Z4M DME requires less fine tuning than it's E46 counterpart, that means that an "off the shelf" tuning solution will be very accurate and does not need to be re-worked to offer the most gains. The sport button feature is actually not supported on this DME and the website will be corrected shortly. I hope this answers your questions."

I think I'm leaning towards Active tune. I can have it done at Turner Motorsports since they are a vendor.

From what I gather, our ECUs have a better ability to adapt to bolt-on modifications as compared to the E46 M3.

Also, no, the AA tune isn't one you can tweak on your own at the dyno. I merely meant that with the handheld units, you can flash the tune in yourself on your own time, as opposed to having to go into a vendor for the flashing. Handheld units allow you to store your OE tune should you ever decide to revert back to stock and/or pass on your tune.

On a side note, interesting to see the gains of your AA/Supersprint mods vs. my Evolve/intake/exhaust combo...

You yielded 295rwhp and 243rwt and I got 289rwhp and 240rwt. Wonder what I would get if I had headers/X-pipe added...
Hmmm... I should get a dyno at that shop, then we could compare euro headers to non (even though i have stock intake) with Evolve.

Three tuners offer the...tune:

Active Autowerke for $499

Evolve for $679

ESS for $995

Now the ESS and Evolve involve sending the data file of your car to the tuning company? Whereas the AA is just an ECU insert?

Do people find they are worth the investment? I know it won't be a miracle tune that will make a stock Z4M a 400 hp beast, but it smooths out the power band and fixes some of the quirks.

Does one company focus on a specific more than another? I know with the AA it make the sport button ALWAYS on, which I am a little leery of. Does one company focus more on tunes with CAI and exhausts, while another is better for just a stock setup?

Since I run on 93 octane, does one tune favor that?

I had a Conforti Shark tune for my Z3M, and it was ok. It really was barely noticeable. Will the Z4M tune produce more of a difference?

Thanks!
With the AA tune, you choose whether you want the sport mode to be the default. I did not choose to so that. My car is definitely faster in both regular and sport mode after the tune.

am I looking at the wrong web sites?

Evolve wants $800 and AA wants $350 for the hand held device? > does that include the tune?

The Z4M uses wideband O2 sensors hence why our ECU tuning isn't as specific as the E46 M3 tuning.

I have the handheld unit and it's convenient to have. I believe it is the same handheld unit that ESS tuning uses for theirs.

Habitat... so the handheld is just a piece of hardware for a price and the tune is totally separate.... for more $$$?

or do you automatically get to e-mail them a copy if you buy the handheld?

Thanks.
Jeff.

The device is above the cost of the tune.

Like mlawfl11 said the device is above the cost of the tune but you can get different tune setups when you send in your file and have them make adjustments.

Hummm.... it does sound lame and they don't mention that on their web sites.

I hate when people/companies say what the customer wants to hear until we pay and get hit with bad surprises....

I need a tune - but I'm still not convinced or sold.

Well for me it was an easy choice. I had a full money-back guarantee, and since I was the first one, they hooked me up. Even paid for my before-and-after dynos too
Annnd not to mention, a local vendor is an authorized flasher for Active Autowerke, so it made the process easier

Yeah, I'm leaning towards Active since Turner (right up the road from me) can just drop it in for me.
