Glad to hear it worked out in your favor - I have Geico as well and am very happy with how they handled everything when I was hit.

My dealer had a Sepang M Coupe a few weeks back - I might swing by there this weekend, if so I'll check if it's still there.

Nice. Looking forward to seeing you in the coupe club. Should be some deals out there come winter.

re finding an 08 Sepang, you might find it tough sledding; there were only 3-4 listed on the production sheet.

I doubt you'll get another one. Something else will strike your fancy. People in your situation often say they'll get another of the same car, but they rarely do. Why start dating the same girl all over again when you have a free pass to choose a new one? There are a lot of exciting cars on the market now, they just don't happen to be BMWs.

You say that about Geico now. You're on their sh*t list now and as soon as you rack up one more claim (even a glass claim) they're going to cancel you. This is their standard operating procedure. I had over 10 years of history with them, a spotless record, and my main incident wasn't even a total loss. 8 months later I hit an owl and that was it -- they cancelled me.

Is that when the car is totaled?
I've been with Geico since February. In mid-April I was rear-ended while at a stop. 72 hours after getting the car back from the shop I was hit by a deer causing another few thousand in damage. Last week I just got my new ID cards and policy declaration for the next 6 months.

Now I'm not from the US nor am I sure about what I am going to say here...
But If I was the body shop that "purchased" the car from the insurance company (ie Geico), I would be reticent to hand over any OEM piece of value to the previous owner (ie the OP).

But hey, that might just be me.

Depends on what they are doing with it... they may be sending it to a scrap yard to part it out.

Exactly, therefore they will sell the parts, not just hand them over to the previous owner.

Scrap yard would make an offer based on the cars condition, they just dont buy it at what geico tells them.

It is also not unheard of to buy parts off the car from the insurance company before it goes to the scrap yard. Or even buying the car back at a discount, parting it out, then selling it to a scrap yard.

There is a local guy with front end damage on his MR2. It was totaled by insurance. He bought it back from them at a ridiculous discount and fixed it and then sold it. Now obviously this doesnt happen all the time, and Ive had friends that have tired to do similar things and the insurance company told them no.

It all depends on the insurance company.

I never really expected him to get the parts for free off the car, as it is no longer his.

I would agree with you, else they should pay him a premium for them. But my post was referring to the OEM seats, steering wheel, etc.

In all seriousness I doubt OP would actually consider taking those parts off the car (seats and hood). He said headers (which were aftermarket) and the grills (which you just yank off)
