I just ordered an Aeromotive 11140 (center inlet), and will get a sleeve kit for it. Wish me luck!

Where in the Z4M do you get access to the fuel pump? Is it hidden under the trunk carpet? If so, on which side?

Interested to hear your thoughts as well bud!

I think earlier in the thread, it was stated that you have to drop the rear cans etc to get to the tank underneath the car. Kinda miss my Integra in this sense... remove rear seat in 3 minutes, remove cover, replace pump.

An upgraded fuel pump sounds like a *really* good investment if there's nothing additional to do (ie. just replace pump, DME adapts, smiles ensue).

I think the drive shaft has to leave along with some heat shielding.

Basically i gotta drop down everything in the rear? Fuck. Thats gonna eat into my tune budget. I'm gonna run about 10psi so fuel delivery on a 72k mile pump is gonna be crucial

Just the exhaust and the gas tank , but that's enough of a pain . Make sure you are almost out of gas of course .

I looked under the car, it looks like the gas tank is in 2 pieces. Or does it look different once you get the exhaust out?

parts:
1.This pump kit + the 340 pump
http://www.radiumauto.com/Fuel-Pump-...-E46-P314.aspx
2.a new big o-ring that goes around the access panel to the fuel pump
3.a new OEM fuel pressure regulator is HIGHLY recommended, since it has a built in fuel filter, and you might as well get a clean one if you're gonna be pumping more fuel in. I was at 75k miles and mine was filthy

tips:
4.as little fuel left in the tank as possible, but enough to get the car re-booted
5. do NOT have to remove the fuel tank to do this job. all happens throught he round access panel which is under the car, near the driveshaft. Exhaust up to headers and driveshaft have to come out.
6. That kit allows you to get an almost tight fit on the pump into the housing, but there is no space to use the metal clamp to hold it on. Connecting the filter "sock" on the bottom prevents it from moving up and down.
7. the housing sits inside the fuel tank. You reach in through the access hole, and press on a tab on the bottom of it at the front, to release it and CAREFULLY lift it up.
8. don't screw up the fuel level stick and level when you're pulling it out or re-installing.
9. watch the HPF E46 M3 youtube install video, for an idea. Its different in our cars though, especially the access which is much tougher

then part 2 of video

I'll post pictures soon that kind of help

You won't be able to confirm that by looking at the BMW part number . I find that very hard to believe personally , but could it be possible , sure .

I snapped a few pics of the Fuel pump repair kit.

Here, you could see the fuel pump inside:

Here's the walbro 400lph pics:

This is a picture of the full repair kit:

It seems really interesting, that the fuel pump casing is actually inside the tank. Since if you look at the fuel lines routing, you could almost feel like this was designed to overcome high G corners where fuel starvation might occur since the way the fuel is drained from the fuel pump inlet area is pretty slow. Another reason is that it's installed in the bottom of the gas tank.

Haha, maybe because it is one ?
No one ever had a problem with fuel flow with this pump if you check the supercharged people.

If anyone did, it's probably because it's an old unit and replacing it with a new one will make you feel the difference.

Now the question is: knowing that we have the walbro 400 pump, wouldn't an aeromotive 340 be a downgrade ?

we don't know for definitive that it is the walbro400 just because it looks the same and some dude on the internet says it is.......???? i will however concede it does appear to be identical to the walbro400 pics you posted even down the finite details... i believe the 340 can flow the same anyway and is a more reliable pump in general.... i would not call it a down grade...

also i agree the fuel setup is a nice design .. as id expect on and ///m car to be honest...
