Love my Z4M and all my BMWs, but

Having gone to the darkside, my E63 AMG is stupid fast! First time I've driven it hard for long periods and it's a hoot! 2 days up and down Nevada out in the desert and I'm impressed!!! Doesn't handle quite as well as the e39 M5 I used to have, but I find I can drive it faster, for longer. Handles pretty well in the Sport 2 mode of the Air magic suspension and there are a fe wmods that can be done to make it better. Crazy Germans!

Enjoy it! Glad that you're playing the field and giving other brands a try. In my opinion, it's important to not get caught up in just the brand, but the experience as well. And the E63 AMG provides a pleasant one.

Cheers,

R.

IMO the E AMG's are the sweet spot in Mercedes' product portfolio, fantastic cars all around

Yep, really like this car. Got em all stirred up over on the AMG forum saying it doesn't handle as well as an e39 m5. Pretty funny. The Benz is really fast, comfortable and does well on "big roads" but is just to heavy for tight stuff. Just doesn't transition the way BMWs do.

I don't know about the E63, but the C63 and SL63 I drove at Auto Club Speedway both impressed the heck out of me.

And I'm hard to impress.

They were shockingly nimble and behaved with better track manners than the E93 M3 I drove on the same day. I really doubt there's any sort of margin that makes the Ms better on track except for parsing of hairs, but for 99.95% of drivers the AMGs were just as capable, if not more so, on track.

And imminently more civilized on the street.

I'm sure if I was allowed to "unleash the beast" the E93 M3 might have churned a slightly better lap time. But for mash and go pleasure, you can't beat the AMG.

The w211 E63 is a little bigger than the C and SL I believe. Awesome car, just not as nimble but I knew that going in. It's my comfy, fast road car which I haven't had since I sold my M5 a couple of years ago. I do believe Mercedes is closing the gap and/or BMW is slipping....

Not many yet. Just a silver MB. Blends right in....until you hear the AMG rumble.
