Takata Airbag Recall?
Is the 2006 M Roadster involved in the Takata Airbag recall? I read on Car and Driver that the 2001–2006 M3 coupe and convertible are affected, and I know our cars share many parts.
Oddly, when I tried to use the BWM Safety Recall website, it insisted my VIN was not valid (I know it is). |

I entered my VIN on another website, I think a US DOT site, and it came back with no recalls for my 07 M Roadster.

It is very strange. Some 2006 M Roadsters have been recalled. I spent a while on the phone with a rep who said my car was not included. Others on the board have said thiers had the parts replaced. It seems pretty shady to me...

I just had my E46 done, passenger side only. Looks like the driver's side will get recalled too, in fact they've started replacing them in the south in "humid" climates, but it's not a full-blown recall yet.

I guess I'll wait for something from BMW. What seems most shady is that my VIN isn't recognized by BMW's own safety website. Neither the full 17-digit VIN, nor the last 7 digits. This is a Canadian Vehicle, but still; they call themselves BMW "North America", not BMW USA.

My 2006 SI is a US car and the VIN site says that there are no outstanding recalls on the car, airbag or otherwise.
(And to think that BMW charges $500 for a letter to that effect when you import the car.......)

I had the Takata airbag recall done on my 2006 Ridgeline. Mine was limited to only the driver's side deflator. Other members had their passenger side deflator replaced as well. It was VIN-specific, so not all cars from a particular model/year got the recall. They are also staggering the recall notices due to the massive number of vehicles that will need airbags replaced so the supplier doesn't get bogged down.

Nothing airbag related has been officially released by BMW for our cars yet. Some of us have extended coverage for the passenger occupancy sensor but that's about it. If anyone wants their VIN run through the BMW database just PM me your last 7 digits and I'll send you a PM back.
I know the media is making a big deal right now about all these Takata airbag issues, however from what I am aware the only BMW that has actually had an official airbag recall has been the E46 and only the front dash passenger side airbag gets replaced. |
