Slight surge under moderate throttle

I've been having a persistent annoyance with my Z4M where I'll give maybe 40% throttle in 2nd gear around 2000 RPM and after one or two seconds it feels like I just gave it 60% throttle and the car will surge. It's definitely not the linear power band I'm used to in the car - almost feels like turbo lag.

I read for codes and it's not pulling any. I'm not sure if it's VANOS solenoids, spark plugs, fuel filter or what. I cleaned the MAF not long ago and the problem persists. And the PO changed spark plugs about 20K miles ago, so I don't think they're faulty.

2006 Z4M, 82K miles

A wild guess is potential issues with timing and it could be due to VANOS. I would get the VANOS exhaust cam hub inspected to ensure your tabs that drive the pump are intact. If it is the solenoid, I would have expected a bunch of codes ...

Yeah, I have an AFE air filter. I've hear of issues with using aftermarket intakes on these cars. I might swap over to the stock one and see if that makes a difference. That sound though.

Yeah, true. I might be time for a VANOS checkup soon.

I know....marvelous noise. Best when combined with CSL headers
