$%!@%$&^*!$!#! cardboard box!

driving to work yesterday morning going down a side street a contractor trying to pull a dolly overloaded with boxes of cabinetry lost control of one and it landed on my fender. what a fluke! luckily, i guess he was insured... i'm on my way now to have my body guy estimate the damage... i'm guessing i need a new fender....uhg.

Holy crap, try to visit a paintless dent removal place first, you'd be surprised what the can fix with only a pinhole sized entry made in your fender. If the body guy wants to do a full fender replacement, you can also try something like this if you thought you had nothing to do loose (seems questionable if it works, but i've always wanted to try

Something like this isn't going to completely remove the dent, it's basically using the coefficient of thermal expansion to your advantage and compressing the metal by going from hot to cold very fast. This will put tension on the metal and pull the dent out. The thing is that if you plastically deform metal (ie dent it) you're not going to get it back to it's orginal state unless you plastically deform it again in the opposite direction. So the places where the maximum stress occurs (around the edge of the dent) it is going to still going to bear a scar from the dent.

In most metals you can actually harden the material by plastically deforming it in opposite directions multiple times and you increase the range of elastic behavior at the same time. Digression over

too much damage to pull. The force tweaked the whole fender, and I know I wouldn't be happy with the results. Anyone care to guess what the estimate is to replace the fender?

i figured 1200-1500.... was shocked at the number. obviously he padded it quite a bit knowing the guys insurance company would push back... but still...

How much of that is labor? I'm thinking parts and paint should be no more than 500 tops.

I have looked and looked at that picture, but can not place that. Looking at the turned wheel it must be the front, but I am missing the lines.

yup... new fender is the only way to go... the amount of distortion makes it the only option.
