Lets talk brake pads - Pagid RS29 vs Hawk DTC60

I have been using Hawk DTC60 up front and Hawk HT10 out back on my StopTech ST40 brake kits (all 4 corners with 355mm rotors).

I have been absolutely thrilled with this setup (excellent modulation and release, solid braking even when cool, no bedding issues or judder ever) except for the wear rate on the DTC60. They seem to wear down past half quickly (5-6 track days) and then start to show cracks so I replace.

I have been reading up on Pagid Yellow RS29 and they look like a good replacement - better wear rate, good modulation and release and friendly on rotors.

Has anyone used both these and have some feedback?

Are some Pagid Black compounds better? If so which one?

We used Pagid RS29 for the 12 hour Devil in the Dark race in the 3,260lbs Bimmerworks 335 and were absolutely thrilled with the performance. We had to stop at the 8-1/2 hour mark due to of all things light failure.
The Pagids would have lasted the full 12 hours no problem.
Excellent bite, modulation and feel. Do yourself a favor and go with the Pagids.

Thanks TSM330i. I ordered a set of RS29s and will try them out when my current DTC60s wear out up front. Will continue to use the HT-10 out back for now as I have another set sitting around.

My friend was using Rs29 on his GT2 and switched for RS14 and never look back. Rs19 and Rs29 are enduro pads, Rs14 is a race pads with more initial bite.

I only use PF01 on my car. Used the Rs29 on my E46 M3 and they were good but miss the initial bite of the PF01.

I prefer the PFC 08 to any of the pads mentioned. Excellent feel and modulation plenty of bite and the wear rate is ridiculous to boot. I went through two sets of front PFC rotors on my tracked Vt-1 445 Z4M before I wore down the 08's !

are these solely being used as track pads, or do you leave them on for street use as well? assuming you DD your Z.

You really don't want to use a race pads like the PFC 01 on the street, your ears will bleed...

Pagid RS29- initial results are in

I did 2 days (almost 300 miles on track) at Road Atlanta with RS-29s up front and Hawk HT-10s out back (StopTech ST-40 w/355mm discs at all four corners).

These pads don't have the strong initial bite of the DTC-60 but still have plenty braking power to slow the car down controllably lap after lap (back straight at RA is a 132-137mph to ~50-55mph downhill braking zone) without fade.

What I liked was that due to the slight less initial bite, threshold braking became a lot easier as ABS intervention was minimised and this in turn allowed me brake just a bit later and harder.

Another side effect for me was that heel-toe downshifts became easier as a result of slightly and more consistent pedal pressure.

Overall I liked this pad a lot and it made braking to corner entry a pleasure and it is a faster pad for my driving style.

Will report on wear rate after a few more days on track.

Bottom line- approach this pad cautiously if you driving style is more towards brake late, brake less and brake hard rather than a slightly longer time on the brakes while focusing on smooth transitions. I am more of the latter and loved this pad as it reduces inputs from me and helps me stay smooth w/o losing on lap times.

Thanks for the review, looking forward to more! It's always nice to hear back on topics like these.

What would you recommend looking at for the later braking individuals? lol Still reading reviews online, but won't be able to test anything this season (deployment)

I have done 2 days at Watkins Glen and 2 at Summit Point Main with these since the Road Atlanta event. Feedback is still the same - good braking, excellent modulation and excellent corner entry controllability as it stays out of ABS.

I have also had a chat with a Pagid engineer since and he said that the RS15 (Gray)Front/RS14(Black) Rear would be way too much braking power for a street car (no aero etc) on street tires (NT-05, RE-11, PSS etc) and I would be into ABS right from start of braking making heel/toe quite difficult. That being said, I have ridden with experienced drivers that like a setup like this and will brake very late and very hard (and get into ABS) and turn the car in in a more quick and dare I say abrupt manner while turning some amazing lap times.

It all boils down to your car setup, your personal preference and driving style. I like to be smooth with overlapping motions (braking to turn in to exit) and enjoy technical aspects like heel/toe, a bit of trail braking etc and find the RS29 (and I from Pagid, RS19s are virtually an identical compound) to work well for me.

What tires is your friend running on the GT2? Also, the GT2 has a decent aero-setup from the factory no?

I can definitely attest to your statement that the RS29s do not have strong initial bite - not like my Hawk DTC60s for sure. But I don't miss that. Like I said, its preference.

I don't DD my Z4MC much but do put a couple hundred miles a month on street in addition to driving to/from track. I find these to have good cold bite and very streetable. My friend is running RS19s on his Stage 2+ Golf R on track and street (his DD) and is pretty happy all around.

Hi all,
I just finished the 12 hour Devil in the Dark again for 2014 and we ran the 335 again and ended up 5th overall (out of 49 cars).
We again ran the Pagid RS29 and had plenty of pad left after the full 12 hours. It's been a great pad and have zero complaints. It's been a phenominal pad and will continue to use them.
