Windscreen blocker

Anybody's Z4 roadster come with a windscreen blocker? I recall that my old Porsche Boxster came with a very nice Lexan one when I bought it from Porsche and it did make a difference with wind noise with the top down. Am curious why this is not a factory included item in the Z4. Any ideas or leads?

I know that the OEM hard wind deflector was included on Canadian cars with the Premium package. US cars with the Premium package got bluetooth but no wind deflector.

I guess its cold in Canada and Americans like to talk more?

AFAIK they never made a hard deflector, only the mesh kind. It was an option at time of purchase. See my mod thread for instructions on retrofitting it. See also that post (at the end) as to why according to BMW mesh is better than acrylic.

There's also one you can just put on top of the roll bars, see here.

What's better? The mesh or the plexiglass deflector?

Edit: having said that a lot of people here like the plexi as it doesn't impair visibility, looks really good, and is way cheaper. I've also seen people say they noticed no difference after having used both.

I've had the clear plexi one for about 4 months and love it (or I should say my girlfriend loves it). Definitely makes a HUGE difference with the windows up and the deflector in place, but still allows good airflow with the windows down.

I've had both OEM wind deflectors.

On my first Z4 I bought the leather and mesh over-the-roll hopes one and though I had it for three years I never liked the way it looked. It worked, but wasn't very pretty.

On my current Z4 I had the integrated wind screen with the removable mesh center piece installed at the dealer immediately after purchase, and I'm a huge fan of it. I've always thought they just should have come that way from the factory, because the design is absolutely seamless.

Never been a big fan of the plexi, but that's personal preference as I don't tend to lean towards things that can look (or are) aftermarket. My $.02.

So is that a device that blocks the windscreen? Kind of line a windscreen-screen?

The mesh is no worse for visibility then a tinted window.

I love the integrated mesh one, as mbetoni says it looks very slick and perfectly integrated. As to function it works beautifully. Even with the high price of retrofitting it I'm definitely glad I did it (just the replacement covers alone are $250+).

As for visibility, I agree it's like a tinted window which for me is another plus as it really helps prevent you from get blinded by people's headlights at night. Even with the dimming mirrors a bit more definitely helps.

And, for what it's worth, I have the windscreen, a 35% tinted rear window and the auto-dimming mirrors, and still have no problem seeing through the back window with the top up at night.

The downside, depending on your budget, is really just the cost.

Very easy. The center mesh part actually isn't permanently 'fixed', its slides in on rails that are part of the inside of each roll hoop and snaps into place on both sides. When you want to clean the back window, you simply snap the center mesh part out and voila.

Uh nope. Like I said, mine is the leather/mesh kind that slips over the roll hoops and ties down to the car with small adjustable straps n clamps. But you answered my question. Have to take the dang thing off.

Fixed OEM Windblocker

For reference, this is what the OEM wind blocker looks like (I installed it myself, from purchased OEM pieces). I've got the trunk mount rails for storing the center section when detached, but actually never use them as I don't ever take the thing off. It makes a huge difference in reducing interior turbulence, and I've never found the visibility to be an issue.

I like the way the car looks with it installed, also ...

During the summer mine is in all the time, but when I have the hardtop on I store it in the trunk. I had no idea you could put the top up with the leather one still in place. I have the leather one too but never use it. (seller threw it in with the hardtop)

That looks like a BMW product to me. They made two types. One was the leather one like that, the other BMW one is the one above that WestCDA posted, in post #17.
