I'd like to run 265/35f with a 295/35r on the STOCK rims ")

Recently I put some NITTO NT-05 265/35/18's on the rear, and left the front stock. Looking at the 265's, I think I can clear a LOT more. This got me thinking about moving the 265's to the front and getting some bigger meats in the rear. Something like a 285 or a 295. I am suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch a sucker for a wiiide stance

Here are some circumferences.

265/35 79.5"
275/40 83.8"
285/35 81.2"
295/35 82.1"

stock 225/45. 81.6"
stock 255/40 81.8"


Right now the difference in the diameters of my front and rear tires is 81.6" - 79.5" is 2.1" and I currently have zero issues with any stability or traction control systems. Therefore, we now know that a difference of AT LEAST 2.1" is acceptable. It looks like the 285/35 (81.2") will work (even better than my current setup) with the 265's (79.5") because there will only be a 1.9" difference front to rear instead of the 2.1" difference I am running right now.



I know they will "work" but will they fit??

A number of us are running the Dunlop Direzzas in 275/35 on the rear with no problem which has a section width .8" wider than stock (10.8" vs 10"). I haven't measured to see just how close I am to the rear shocks, but I believe we're pretty close. You might be pushing things to look at a 285 (11.2" section width and a total of .6" closer to the shocks than stock).

"Wiiide stance" is a component of offset, not rubber. Either get new wheels or add spacers.


Also, when you say your left your front tires "stock" do you mean size or do you mean you left the stock Continentals on there? If you left the stock Contis up front and put really sticky tires on the rear, then you just did, in my opinion, a really bad thing and created a very unbalanced (traction-wise) car.

Camber will be an issue. It may rub on the inside if running track camber (-1.5).

Well aware of that, thanks. Maybe I should have made myself clearer......... kinda goin for that sick ass '03 cobra on 335DR's look if that makes sense

Correct, thats exactly what i did, but I intend this only to be short term.


As for the 285's in the rear, couldnt I just add a spacer to clear the shock, or would it then interfere with the fender?

My rear track wheels are 18x10 ET 25 (compared to the stock 18x9 ET 30). Initially I had Nitto 275/35 NT-01 R-comps on them which also run really wide (more like a 285 or 295) and I had no problems on stock suspension with camber on the track.

If you try to put that size rubber on your car you're gonna have issues.

First of all, if you can even get the rubber on there it'll look like crap with the tire hanging over the rim (like this but worse http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112383).

Second, if you go that wide in the rear you have to lower your aspect ratio otherwise the circumference will be significantly bigger in the back than the front.

I currently run 285/25/20 toyo t1r's rears and 245/30/20 on the front and minimal rubbing, i need to get the fenders rolled and it should be good...anything taller than this will rub definitely....hope this helps...
