Drive wheels turning in neutral

Car is on jack stands, wheels off.
Engine idling.
Clutch is engaged. I know there is residual pressure on the FW.
Drive wheels are turning possibly 1 rev every 3 seconds. Is the speed that the wheels are turning an indication of how much clutch pressure is present. I really thought my clutch was going away last year but if that was the case wouldn't the wheels be stationary?

Can't sort this out in my mind what the relationship is.

Without pressing in on the clutch pedal, every gear in the transmission is spinning, just none of them have been selected to spin the output shaft. It's normal gear drag on the output shaft, you can stop the wheels with your hands.

Yep. I'd be more concerned if it is NOT moving.

I'm thinking the same thing.

How do we actually find out if the clutch is on the way out?

Here are two of my favorite engines (Porsche's flat 12 & Matra/Ligier's V12) doing the same as yours.

Your clutch is going out when it start slipping. RPMs start to go up but the MPH doesn't go up proportionally. Clutches generally last well in excess of 100k, unless abused, mistreated or person doesn't know any better. I've seen people at a light on a hill keeping the car from rolling back by slipping/feathering the clutch like an idiot.

Start driving up a steep hill in 2nd or 3rd rpm near 3k, hammer the accelerator and determine if the clutch is slipping by monitoring rpm vs mph. Usually you can smell it if it's slipping.

I am familiar with that method. I just wish there was a way to tell ahead of time to budget

The other side of clutch slippage is clutch drag...difficulty selecting or shifting gears. Causes can be: a sticking or warped clutch disc, a weak pressure plate, a worn throw out bearing, or a fault in the hydraulic system (leaking clutch master or slave cylinder). Think a clean, fresh fluid flush every two years is good insurance for long hydraulic life.

I glad you're familiar with that method. Have you abused your clutch ?

The only other method I know, is to take the clutch out and measure the thickness of the friction material

Yea I have slippage based on accelerating hard up a grade.
LWF and HD clutch on the shelf for the inevitable day.

Personally, if my clutch was slipping, I would replace it ASAP, not put it off until the inevitable day

This is how my MR2 failed at about 170k miles.
Pilot bearing seized rather abruptly.
Still had plenty of surface left on the disc.
