Redline 10W60
Is anyone using Redline 10W60 in their M ?
I didn't realize they even made an M weight oil until now. http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=130&pcid=21

Hmmm..I would personally stick with Castrol's BMW blend juuuuuuust in case. There are certain things that I can nit-pick the BMW engineers for, but this is definitely not one of them. I had thought previously too that as long as you have the same viscosity rating, all go! But then I heard otherwise as well lol. It's true what some people say. Those engineers there must have a reason for making a special blend just for ///M motors. It couuuuld be possible that they're trying to rip us off, and take advantage of noobs that get suckered into the "oh, it's special for M cars!" idea, buuut regardless, I'd rather just take a safe route. I'm not going to save TOO much by going aftermarket brand anyhow.
For my MR2 however, the only OEM parts I used was ignition components and coolant lol. Everything else I used aftermarket =] Heck for the record, I bet it's fine, but I just don't want to risk it personally lol I'm not rich enough to think of these S54 motors as expendable items =P G'luck though! Interesting find. I guess the ///M engines are very particular...BUT perhaps if it's much cheaper (I haven't checked the price), you could run Redline and it may be worthwhile to change it sooner than 7500 miles---giving you cleaner oil more of the time. Then again...might as well just stick with a proven formula ; castrol change every 7500mi.

I have no plans to switch.
More than anything I was just surprised that it was out there.

I think someone here has tried Motul on their S54. Ive heard great results in other engines but not sure if it'll work for the M.

Disconnect the harness right above the oil filter housing (for ease of removal), unbolt the 13mm bolt on top of the oil filter housing, remove oil filter, remove old gasket, re-install new oil filter, re-install gasket, put a dab of oil on the gasket, remove the small o-ring and replace on the bolt, replace small washer under the bolt, tighten to 32Nm, re-attach harness.

Yeah, I believe I saw that on Turners site. Their Castrol was on for a good price (compared to my local stealer) but costs of getting it here make it prohibitive.

^ yeah, I found the same thing.
By the time you factor getting it here, it's cheaper to just buy local. We also have a local dealer that gives us a club discount.
