I know why - it's because the rest of us are much better looking than you!!!

Yeah I definitely get some. But I don't get a lot of those "WHOA! What's that?!??!" looks. I especially used to love when I was driving around small suburbs in CT with little kids in their front yards screaming "Nice car!!" while running toward it LOL.

+1. Little kids stop what they're doing and just stare.

I used to be one of those kids, dreaming that one day I would be in one of those cars.

When you pull up at a stop light next to a guy you knew in high school and with whom you always had a friendly rivalry over who's Dad had the better car. He's driving a Miata, looks over, and his eyes POP ( ) as you toot the horn and drive off!

(I particularly enjoyed that one!!!!)

...when after 4+ years of ownership you still get compliments at the gas station from strangers which ends up being their form of ice breaking to ask more questions about a car they've never seen before.

What's nice is that my last encounter was with a pretty attractive woman

....when you strategically park your beautiful M, turn the wheels so it looks cool, and then watch it as you walk away.

and....when you go out to the garage to take out the trash, and must walk over, stop, and just look at the freaking incredible sculpted lines of this amazing ride.

....when on the first work day of this yr (Mon 3 Jan) while it's 23F outside in Seattle....you drive to work w/the top down, heated seat on, gloves, jacket, wool cap and your iPhone plugged into AUX and listening to your favorite tunes under a canopy of stars, early morning.

You know you drive a Z4 when;
>When the hardest decision of your day is coupe or convertible.
>When every ricer you ever see tries to race you
>When kids at your school offer suggestions as to what American trash you could have gotten for the price instead
>When you actually enjoy running errands
>When people ask why you bought a separate convertible AND a coupe LOL
>When your friend with a 335i wants nothing but to take you on
>When all you see at the country club around your car is a host of other Z4s
(Seriously, why do people with the same make and model feel obliged to park next to you?)
>When an M5 owner gives you a smile and a thumbs up at a red light
And finally
>When you drive faster than everyone else(;

LOL. I'd like to believe that buying one of these cars leads to that, contrary to the popular belief that we're compensating for it.

Maybe youre like me - they're looking, but you don't notice. I never really notice many looks but my gf says people are staring all the time.

Anyways:

.. when you're mechanic looks forward to you coming to the shop

.. when you walk up to your car and a kid is taking a picture of it (my new rule is that if the parent is there, I'll let them take a pic with the kid in the drivers seat - the love it)

.. when you cringe at handing your car to the valet... and he stalls it.

.. when you're driving along the highway and you see aftermarket angel eyes coming up fast from behind to get a glimpse. Other BMW enthusiasts love M coupes

... when someone says "Nice M3/M5/M4/M6/etc!". Ok this one grinds my gears a little (and I really appreciate the people who DO know what it is! I'll talk to them all day). Speaking of..

.. when no matter how long you've had your car, she will still make you look like a fool shifting into 2nd gear if you're not on top of it

let me ask the other modded Z owners...

do you get a lot of angry looks and spaced out looks of confusion? i do. i mean i also get lots of compliments and people snapping pictures of the car.

and then on the highway people drive so damn erratic when i'm just cruising. i really don't drive fast on the street at all. i get so much track time in a year that i have no desire to speed. and when they finally pull up alongside me they floor it and weave through traffic as if to show me look what i can do. we're not talking only other 'fast' cars, i'm talking like camrys and such lol.

i really want to stop dailying my car because it's so unpleasant the attention it gets. even got a spotted thread in here about how someone didn't like the wing lol. part of the attention could be my full exhaust as well, but i'm also not revving around town either. i'll pull out of places with people waiting for me to do something stupid like peel out, and i casually drive off. same goes for c&c...i don't like when people burn out when they leave.

gotta save up for a reliable suv i think, so that i can daily that and trailer the z to the track :/

ok end rant!!

here's how it sits currently:

if it's unpleasant driving a not at all out of reach 30-40k car with lots of mods, imagine how unpleasant it would be to drive a 200k+ supercar

i guess some people like that kind of attention. i pretty much hate it.

...when you're driving up a street in your neighborhood and you see a little kid, maybe 5 years old, squatted down on their front lawn playing with something, then they hear you and they look up, then stand up, drop what they were playing with and just turn in place watching you drive by.

Yup, I was one of those kids too, a long, long time ago!

THIS! I did one of those exotic car tours and honestly I felt very uncomfortable with the attention I was getting (especially in the convertible gallardo). Even had this guy on a bike start popping wheelies next to me on the highway at 80mph. Luckily around here BMWs and the like are like Camrys so I don't get much attention except from fellow enthusiast which I don't mind.

There's 3 kinds of good attention: kids, enthusiasts, and (most importantly) girls =)

I go to a fairly large high school, about 3,000 kids, so I see new faces everyday in the parking lot and my E89 receives everything from approving smiles to angry, unnecessary engine revving. I'm fairly anonymous on the road though, I haven't noticed any extra "attention". My baby gets all the attention she needs from me (:
