Agreed I do not understand the logic behind it either but maybe BMW also want to target the SL range?

You guys are looking at a pic of the new Z and saying it is bigger and heavier. It has cladding on it to hide the design. What in the world would make you say it is bigger and heavier than our Z's, a picture with cladding?

Don't think anyone made that leap. It's been reported to be a tad larger. It also (obviously) has a folding metal roof and if the 3er is any indication, that alone should add some extra heft and not in an ideal place. It'll most certainly have a lot more options (ie, iDrive, comfort acCess, PDC, etc., etc.) which aren't exactly weightless. You can almost expect it to weigh more than the current model, unless they start replacing some sheet metal with cardboard like the M3 CSL. Not to mention the weight of the N54 compared to the N52.

Also keep in mind, besides what was mentioned in the post above me, there are also pictures of the new Z4 floating around without the cladding and nothing more than a camoflauge paint job.

It's a larger car, has a bigger engine, and a metal roof. That alone is adding a good amount of heft. ~200-300lbs more weight.

Do you like driving with a fat passenger in your car all the time?
