For the reference of US purchasers:
Ordered my gapTech module on Thursday, April 21st. Arrived Monday, May 2nd. Transit time to Washington DC metro area: 11 days including Easter holiday. Installation was about 30 minutes or so. Instructions are comprehensive and well written. Trickiest part was getting wire loom harnesses disconnected. Used the provided Scotch-Loks with no issues. Trick seems to be to depress the metal blade with a pair of pliers or vice grips to ensure good contact, and THEN to close cover. Works perfectly!! Oh, and regarding the proper timing for the button presses? This is the mantra that I use, and it works every time. "PRESS, Bee-Em-Double-You, PRESS, Bee-Em-Double-You, PRESS"

Right up there with the Multivex mirrors, the XM Direct receiver, the Roadster Solutions windscreen, the hardtop prep kit, the Touareg torch flashlight, the visor sticker removal, the mangowalk stubby, the LeatherZ Mark 4 armrest, the underseat storage boxes, the hardwired HomeLink garage door opener, the stealth Magnadyne DVU-2 power outlet, the Bosch Icon wipers, the ultimate cupholders, the rubber floor mats, and the hardwired Garmin with separate powered speakers. Gotta customize, no? By the way, did you ever receive your hardtop storage bag? Last edited by Kimolaoha; 05-13-2011 at 03:37 PM.. |

By the way for anyone who’s doing this install, the oe trunk stoppers have been discontinued and the replacement part does not fit. Easy workaround is to use a Dorman rubber vac cap (p/n 650-007). It has a 1/2” inner diameter so fits perfectly. Also probably overkill but I then used a 5/8” cap on top of the 1/2”.
Pic 1 - no stoppers Pic 2 - how close trunk lid is to rear glass Pic 3 - Dorman 1/2” cap Pic 4 - Dorman 5/8” cap (on top of the 1/2”) Pic 5 - gap created between trunk and rear glass (Not sure why site keeps uploading my images wrong orientation but pics 2/3/4 should be portrait and 5 should be landscape) Last edited by 3002 tii; 09-08-2019 at 12:49 PM.. |
