Thanks, I have that but I also have the phone prep kit that mounts into the oddments door and holds the phone, charges it, sends the audio directly to the radio, and most of all uses the bumper antenna for the phone. Thanks to AT&T's great service, the bumper antenna works great with the phone.

The iPhone doesn't have an external antenna connection in its connector. Some one sold you some snake oil. Here's a pin out:

Here's a retailer with an explanation that only a "passive" (aka worthless) external antenna can be used. And to be effective, it would have to be connected a signal amplifier, which is not a part in the BMW catalog.

Here's a search for "amplifier" in the Z4 part catalog. All of the results have to do with the radio antenna, or speaker systems.
