Also for clamping.
You can put weights on top (after properly protecting the boot lid)

You can also use suction mounts as a support base and tie across and over to the underside of the lid.

Ian

Both your suggestions are valid and I understand that the part will not be 100%
It is a very good piece, just a little off at the transition on the top of the trunk lid

I went out earlier and messed around with fitment and if it is raised up off the trunk from its natural resting position the gap does close, however I can't be sure the tape will take up this amount of lift. I suppose a dry run with tape under the lip will show that.

I must reiterate that the piece looks very good.

^ it may also make a difference how it is placed.

If the middle is held up slightly while the 3M at the ends is pulled off first.....

ok!!!!

mines landed!!

first off, this piece looks beautiful, no denying at all, zero damage and packed REALLY well.... I'm itching to get out to the garage to set it on top of the lid to see how it looks, but as a single piece it just looks gorgeous, the weave on mine is perfection, really solid piece too, i cant see it giving under pressure too much tbh but i may be wrong...shipping, service and quality of construction are top level.....

ill report back later with my findings once it sets down ontop of my lid top..... I'm just waiting for the kids to go to bed and I'm straight into the garage!!

Anyone coating their wing with anything? Shared experience would be great. I didn't coat CF I've had on prior cars but will be starting now.

Not sure if an extra coat of UV clear would help (or exists).

I've also read that Aerospace 303 should be used to help protect CF bits.

the coating on it seems very high quality and thick.... I'm not sure if adding anything else will help and may actually diminish the finish.

I was gonna say, it already looks like it has some sort of clear coat. Maybe the OP can confirm

ok....

The good news is the quality of this item is really nice, must stress that, i love the way it looks , and against the silver it really pops, obviously this is just sat on the car no tape , the carbon weave is really nice with no imperfections , now..... these gaps..... for ME on my car these are quite noticeable on my silver car, the spoiler looks so good from every angle apart from the view looking across the boot lid towards the back of the car, silicone sealer is a no no for me and just isn't acceptable. from what I'm seeing its like the profile on this section is just sightly off from a curvature on the boot lid, the top section and the ends sit PERFECT then these gaps just really kept taking my eye, am i being a perfecionist?????? .... on this section it sits high enough from the metal work that I'm pretty sure the 3m tape wouldn't be touching both surfaces..... now if you tilt the back of the spider upwards it slightly closes the gap but this tape isn't thick enough to lift this back end up , the spoiler is very rigid and its own inherent quality means this thing isn't going to flex anywhere near enough to do whats needed.... i really need to get the car out in the daylight to assess further how i feel about it, but basically the gaps listed abov and pictured by different members perfectly highlights what I'm talking about....... Correct m if I'm wrong but it looks like under these gapped sections it may be best to not put 3m under them and use it for the top section and end pieces as they sit perfectly.. I wont be able to fit this now until the spring months so i really look forward to see how people get on over the coming months. I would like to thank the OP for his hard work on this.

Further pics in the daylight tomorrow looking backwards down the spoiler ( where gaps are highlighted).

Oh man I must admit it looks a lot better on a silver car! The only pro for us guys with a black car is that we won't be able to see the gaps much. As a perfectionist, I can tell you that you're being a perfectionist. Then again, as a carbon fiber addict, I've never bought a perfect fit CF item as OEM. You could always have someone fill the bottom with fiberglass and paint it black to cover the gaps

yeah this thing pops on silver!

anyone else got their yet??? any install pics??

Ross... cant wait to get your opinion when yours comes in as you seem to have experience in this area.. I'm good on mechanics but never really ventured into bodywork changes bar oem pieces.

I'm #8 and picked it up yesterday at USPS....the box was really damaged w/holes in the cardboard, stress marks, etc....all styrofoam blocking was laying in the bottom of the box and not in place, holding the beloved piece....was very concerned that it was perhaps a two-piece delivery....great news, the wrapped protection of the piece prevented any freight damage....immediately went to the garage and laid it on the Imola Red Roadster....great fit and great finish; the CF twill matches my Tekarbon CF mirrors....IT LOOKS AWESOME - will install this Spring after the Great Pacific Northwest weather; THANK YOU FOR SETTING UP THIS GROUP BUY.

Got @ to checking the piece out thoroughly today. Fantastic fit, no gaps, high gloss and looks incredible. I must admit this piece completes the look I was after. Thanks again for offering the group buy on this piece which us truly unique.

The CF spoiler is clear glossy gel coated with UV protection coating. I specifically requested this finish since it's the classiest and most durable finish. You'll not need anything on there as is. You can; however, wax it, protect it from the elements as you choose.

I have since contacted the manufacturer regarding the gaps some of you see.

"All these are hand-made and since CF in its raw form are temperature sensitive. The clear gel coat can prevent CF from expanding/contracting but not 100%"

"If let it sit under the sun, it'll relax and soften a little bit to make the install easier."

"Push down at the center, after measurements done, peel the backing of the tape a little bit (3"-6") at a time, apply pressure and hold for 1-2 minutes or until bonded. Do both ends the last for finer adjustments"

"If the tape supplied is too thin, thicker 3M tape, also available in black can be obtained easily online and use for installation. Don't stack the tapes though, get thicker ones"

Black silicone is what most professional body shop uses to get an even better weather seal. It is optional, however. If you let the CF sit in sun and install above 20C, it should be ok. I will put silicone on mine for a better bond.

Now I understand why isn't anyone making this trunk-liner style spoiler for the E85. OE, avoid the center contour and side slopes. Alpina, just cover it and make it flat at the top. Liberty Walk, just make a duckbill to cover all the trunk shape. Most of the modern cars which have an available OE trunk lip-liner spoiler, has a flat trunk top. Versus our E85 roadsters, It has one of the most complicated and sophisticated design in a single piece metal for a trunk! The goal of Skyer spoiler is to highlight it.

Excellent news.
Can you take a few shots of the side of the spoiler that some of us have concerns about. Maybe there are manufacturing tolerances with the boot lid or the spoiler at play here.

Good to know the gel coating has UV inhibitors, I guess I'm just paranoid of yellowing over time as my car spends a good amount of time in the sun.

Thanks for replying to all considerations in this thread by the way

ok called in a morning sicky at work and had alittle play!!

Definitely getting installed... it looks absolutely class!! I'm loosing none of the ductail its just turned up x 10!! quality of the part is like an oem piece, against the silver it just works so well, infact as per the title i think this IS the best spoiler available for the z4 as all is does is complement whats already their but in a very cool way.

OP thanks for coming back to me and once it gets sunny here ill start the process of fitting, i agree it needs alittle time to set, LOVE this piece however, love your service and transparency , and I'm sure with alittle work and jigging it will be perfect.

you can imagine how cool this looks on a silver car!!! WOOOOWWW!!

the gaps are still present..... just not showing on the pics :-( as i said before enough in certain places I'm sure the tape wont even contact both surfaces. if i need to take it to a professional for install i will.... as i fear air will get under and lift the spoiler at high speed.... it cant be left with those gap once installed on the car imo.

OP has responded after he contacted the manufacturer, so I'm hoping the gaps settle down once this has sat in the sun, this isn't attached in the pics just sitting on the car....... its too cold here to try.

i do however LOVE this piece!!
