The hatch is already available for anyone who wants to pay for it. No one is ruling out an add-on spoiler...taking everything 1 step at a time, and the focus now is on the lip.

For those who haven't seen the GT4 M3 lip, here is what gave me the idea about trying to incorporate the brake ducts. This is a BMW piece, not a Challenge piece and not for the Z4, but hopefully you get the point

I would vote both, but have no $$ to go anywhere near that for now. Excellent that we are starting to see some of these build for the Z4.

This lip looks pretty nice too, albeit was designed for E46 M3's OEM bumper. It seems they were very successful with the sale of this one:

That looks great.
I also like that they didn't sacrifice too much height.

I would be in for a lip and some type of rear diffuser. I might be off on this, but I'm not TOO jazzed about another expensive CF product though. I know other materials are less "baller" but for the track guys who are going to get it dinged and smashed up I think a splitter or diffuser at half the cost would be VERY attacttive as opposed to just...attractive haha.
But either way I'm down, glad to see new stuff coming out for our cars. |

A solution is possible but the financial burden of it is significantly greater than the benefit.

Interesting. Perhaps the engineering made things difficult ? The hatch molds that I worked with are not problematic at all and will yield Resin Infused parts rather than their open mold wet-lay-up parts...all at an affordable price. I even used my coupe to test fit. I guess I should knock out a few and list them for sale. |

i want a CSL proportioned duck tail for the hatch that i can get molded on. The front would be nice if it is e46csl reminiscent or something that fits well.. just make it out of fiberglass, I want to paint that shit anyway lol

So basically by saying costs are "prohibitive" it is to say that the manufacturer, based on it's internal estimations of the market, does not expect the demand to be adequate given price. At the price it could offer should it produce 10 pieces, it may expect 6 or 7 buyers. At the price it could offer should it produce 100 pieces, it may expect 70 or 80 buyers. Who knows the actual numbers - the point is that price point is prohibiting would be buyers at given levels of supply. Leaving the company with a surplus of product to move that it will most likely lose money on, which is obviously not the goal. Of course, I am not speaking specifically for Challenge, and am just using these numbers to explain the general concept. |
