Storage question
Does anyone here leave the windows down slightly or the doors/hatch slightly ajar to relieve compression on the gaskets/weather striping? I've had a few rather aged cars in the past, and it seems that after years and years of having the doors shut, the seals can get flattened. Even though our cars are young, I'm still doing this - it's actually the main reason I do cover it because the cover will keep dust and crud from getting into the interior.
It's a simple enough thing to do, just thought I'd throw it out there.

Parked mine with car cover just over a week ago...drove it to work on a Monday...awesome warm day...the next day...rain and snow...lots of it...so it won't see the light of day until the spring.
Question: I bought a battery charger....but it seems the search on this forum is not clear on if to remove battery or not. I do NOT want to take it to the dealer in the spring to reset anything if possible. Any clear answers? |

Make sure you use a quality voltage regulated tender. A normal battery charger is not what you want to use.

I put my Z4 in storage on Friday past. Although I'll miss the car terribly, there's no way I would ever subject it to an east coast winter!

Installed my winter tires last week... Still drive it from time to time... come January, I will garage it for a month at a time with proper set-up. The long wait till the next tracking season is well under way.

Thinking im gonna store mine, this will be the first car i ever stored so im a newbie,
Do you guys wash your cars prior to putting the cover on them? Does a place like Canadian Tire sell these Battery Tenders? Should i take my wheels off and leave the car on stands if im storing it from now until spring?

They sell a variant, which is just as good. Quote:
Leaving a car parked for six months isn't really 'storage.' Wash it, change the oil, disconnect the battery and put it on a float charger, inflate the tires to proper psi and forget about it. |

What about fuel? I was planning on storing mine as well. Should any kind of fuel stabilizer be added or suggestions as to how much gas should be left in the tank at the time of storage?

I've been storing them for 35 years now. Older cars needed fuel stabilizer.
The systems today are well sealed so low chance for moisture. The fuel will get somewhat stale without the stabilizer but isn't harmful and you'll burn through it in the spring. The alternative is to use a stabilizer but there is a small risk of damaging a cat or a sensor if you do -at least that was reported directly to me by Infiniti. There aren't any auto manufacturers I'm aware of that recommend using stabilizer for that reason. To me though a fuel injector cleaner must be a lot more harsh. Top up your tank to minimize moisture being able to form and you're good to go. |

You can order direct from Batterytender too. The BMW branded model is a little more but I figured at least if it fails I can count on some support from the motherland.
