Unofficial TEXAS thread
So it seems like there's a lot of posters on here from Texas. Well, at least IN Texas. Thought I'd make this thread for all of us to have somewhere to chat and BS about whatever, work, life, make plans for meets, get togethers, BBQs, etc (though feel free to create your own thread for those if you'd like).

Hampton Inn and Suites (especially when new) have been my favorite.

stayed at a Marriott last time I travelled...was pretty nice. but expensive. for the money, Travelodge is one of my favorites.

I would LOVE to get into auto-xing!!! I really want to. only thing is...I'm 4 1/2 hours away from DFW and 4 hrs away from any type of decent track...the one in austin...H2R? There's a drag strip here, and I may run on it just for funsies, but I really want to get this thing on a track.

nothing beats air force inns (aka military lodging) for value. i got stuck in a colorado blizzard two winters ago and stayed at la quinta - decent, and holiday inn - pricey.
for all, there's an hpde at harris hill road (h2r) in san marcos (between san antonio and austin) on saturday, 20 nov 2010. price is $165 for a full day with 4 runs of 22 minutes each, all skill classes available with one-on-one instruction. registration closes monday, nov 1st. here's the link - http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.c...B18FE3A9387798 |

I'll be on a cruise!! It seems like I've always got plans when these HPDEs are!! BOO! Next spring I'm doing as many as I can. no excuses. Dont' care what the wife says...lol
AF Inns ARE nice! but I don't travel to anywhere with a base near by, nor do I go TDY that often...lol the AF Inn on Kadena was amazing.

^tough luck! haven't decided if i'll attend as i'd rather be tracking alone or with a buddy as opposed to an instructor, since most of the fees are for the instructors really. a few weekends ago, h2r had an open trackday with buy-in heats, $30 for 20 minutes. missed that one.
dallas has way more tracks and if u're almost the same distance away from dallas and austin, i'd go dallas for sure. |

Crap. I have always wanted to run an oval. I guess I can...just not in my M. I am still looking forward to getting together with you guys at some rally, HST, or build-out event. The local Dallas chapter of the BMW club is really strong and it looks like they have regular events.

i'm working on getting permission to use the continental tire test track only 45 minutes east of me in the small town of uvalde. it's got what's probably one of the biggest ovals in the states - 3-lane 8.5 miles around with 1.1 mile straights! not to mention two smaller ovals, two road courses, skidpads galore and other track testing areas. unfortunately, it's a private company test track and i'm trying to get a special invite from an employee i happen to know that works there.
think the excuse of 'i'd like to evaluate the performance of my oem continental contisport contact tires please' would work? |

FYI - Autox events generally don't happen at race tracks. I think there are some clubs that have events in the San Antonio area. Check for the local area SCCA or BMW CCA.

Still on travel, got extended over the weekend all the way to Wednesday. Not too bad since I have family and friends in the area but the girlfriend is pissed. Also got out of the Worst Western and into a Marriott. Thanks for the tip jragan, I'll have to check them out. Marriotts have treated me pretty well so far. Snapped a little video the other night, I could live here!
