Mako. The wheels look great. From the pics your hyperblack look more silver than mine. I have heard that there is often variation with that finish between batches. Apex is aware of that and makes sure they number all the batches so all the wheels match but for anyone with hyperblack wheels of any brand on the way it never hurts to make sure the finish is consistent before you put them on the car.

That is correct there is slight variation in batches, BUT the biggest variation comes from photography. direct sun light makes the silver pop more in photos and can look like a bright silver or chrome finish. If you take a picture indoors and use a flash, sometimes it will look almost as dark as anthracite or gun metal.
It's the finish that makes for the longest phone conversations ![]() |

@ Mako - I still say mine are darker but that's mostly because I like being antagonistic. ![]() Last edited by GothM; 07-01-2010 at 09:01 PM. |

Okay so I am totally set on the 9.5f/10r set up but I am so torn between finishes! It is either going to be be hyper black or Anthracite?!?!?!?! I think the gun metal looks to dark and in some pics I think the Hyper Black look to much like chrome.... I don't know what to do! If they only did bronze I would be all over them. Any advice from you guys are which way I should swing?

Correct. It is a bright silver. It makes the OEM wheels look grey by comparison. My only reason for choosing Hyper Silver is that I thought it would not show scratches as easily since the metal under the paint would be light in color also. Otherwise as track wheels, I don't really care what color they are.

Damn nice wheels! Tempting, not only for the ///M but for the little piggy too (E92 M3) which could use a diet....
So are you guys running these wheels as exclusively for track days, mixed use, or street use? Since they're lightweight flow-formed cast (but not gravity cast), I wonder how well they'll hold up for mixed or street only use (ridges, potholes, etc.).... At under 20 pounds (fantastic) there's simply less structural material, and forged > flow-formed cast in strength given a wheel of the same weight. Maybe this is less of an issue with the ///M 3,200 pounds than the M3 3,700 pounds? Anyone care to opine on street/track use and the concerns in the paragraph above? |
