I just wondered if the improved pivot bushings & mechanicals would gain similar improvements as the changing tranny bushings.
I had wondered if the axial play in the shifter would make a difference, but doubtful, it would be notchier than it is currently, with the UUC SSK I believe.

Now THAT is not what I have experienced, so you have a different situation. What I had was an inconsistency in the notchiness, it seemed like some times 1->2 and 2->3 were butter smooth, yet firm and other times, notchy. The only time it is consistently smooth is when hard turning left under power so that was my clue that there was some inertia-based movement either in the engine or tranny mounts. I tried the tranny mounts as they are cheap and do no harm and the shifts do seem more precise and consistent now, so it's always notchy now

I had grind 2 or 3 times. Maybe caused by letting clutch out early. I changed to Bmmerworld tranny mounts recently. The car feels much tighter when shifting. There are more vibration when cold, but I can live with that.

I am waiting for my AutoSolutions SSK. It should be here by end of April and install in May in time for Laguna Seca. I don't expect much shorter throw but more precise shifting.

I do noticed the tranny shifts during turns while shifting 1 -> 2. That is the reason I changed the tranny mounts.

thekurgan;
Do you notice any more vibrations or sound in the car after replacing the mounts? I had a buddy who switched out his motor mounts on a VW to "Race" mounts and it shook like crazy. Thanks!

None whatsoever, I felt the shift knob (whalen) throughout the day, no added vibrations. I got the neoprene over the urethane, which I was told would rattle my teeth.

I didn't either. My buddy with an M3 was telling me to get one and I told him our tranny is from the 3.0si not the M3. I hope Rob didn't make that assumption as well.

When u guys are shifting from 1st to 2nd do u have to use more force getting it into gear? My other shifts (3rd 4th gear ect.) does not have that extra resistance

Interesting, yes, before the bushing swap, it was stiff at times, now the shifts are lighter but still notchy, but I don't mind the notchiness as it's consistent now.

I talked to Ronald a few times just to be sure he got my order. You can email him Ronald@autosolutions.net for more details.

Last time I talked to him, he is working on a new design for Z4. He said he was not happy with the first design and going to rework it.

Bimmerworld tranny mounts are urethene. It looks just like RE.

I get some vibration when the car is cold. After the car warmed up, I didn't notice any. Of course, it hard to tell with BMS exhaust installed.

Grind is gone baby

Just a heads up. Installed the new tranny mounts and I have not grinded at all. Tranny has a notchier feel but it seems to have eliminated my grinding going into second. It is awesome being able to slam into second gear and get ALL the power down. Feels good. RE tranny mounts $50. Did about fifteen stop and go's from first to second up to 8k shifting w/o hesitation. Went right into gear and the tires rip off second gear. NICE. Install was a bitch as the studs are longer on the RE mounts compared to the stock ones. This makes it tricky. I used a angled Craftsman 3/8 ratchet to get to the top mount bolts. No exhaust removal, just took down part of the heatshield. 45 minutes including jacking car.

You need to remove the tranny crossmember first then loosen the top mount bolts.

Actually it's not so long term. About 48 hrs. Meant to put them on sooner but was to busy with the header install and shakedown. But from the results so far and the feel I'd say it's a winner. Ill keep everyone posted as I am expecting to get some good miles on her this coming weekend.

No issues here other than usual notchiness. To date it sounds like some good success with this mod. It would be interesting to hear from a few more on how it works for them.

^ +1 no issues thus far either.
I know a couple of guys that say it happens at a particular corner at a local track here.
It'll be interesting to see what happens when I run there later.
