Z4 M Coupe Values

Wanted to bring this back up in 2024. I purchased a 2006 Z4 M Coupe with 69k miles a few months ago and have spent time "restoring" it. New badges, pain correction, refurbishing the interior leather, new steering wheel and shift knob.
Also had a lot of work on the s54 done including vanos rebuild with beisan systems.

What does the group think values are going to be doing in the coming years?
I plan to drive it on weekends when the weather is nice but do think these cars are undervalued.

I have a 2022 g80M3 comp xdrive as a daily but prefer this for a nice drive. Just a super fun car and the S54 is so exciting to wind up.

The pandemic spiked the prices across the board, now the market has gone soft across the board. Even many of the sought after classic muscle cars are down 15%-25% in 2024. Who knows what the future holds, though good examples of the Z4MC are becoming rarer and with the low production numbers on these last of the analog models, I'd "guess" sometime in the future, they'll start really appreciating in value, but it may take many many years. Bottom, line, it's unknown and people can guess all day...

If you enjoy driving the car, I wouldn't worry about its potential future value. Doing so would only detract from your enjoyment of the car! I have already written off the value of my car when I bought mine nearly 14 years ago with only approx. 7400 miles back then. I bought my 2008 Z4si E85 with 41k for 17,500! I paid too much for it in October, but I never thought about what it would be worth down the road. I bought it because it is so fun to drive, low miles, and it was in showroom condition. I would have liked an "M" but none were to be found. I buy cars on the emotions they stir in me. Two seats, convertibles, and handling are my thing!

I agree, I’m planning on driving it weather permitting.
I’m just curious why this car hasn’t gotten the same attention as the e46 m3 given its potential advantages.

Anyways I’m very exited to join this community. I’m a long time reader and this partially inspired me to try to get one.

I think E85/6 Z4's will always lag the Z3 price wise. If you want an investment, get a Z3M Coupe S54. I'll tell you right now though that that Z4MC will drive rings around it! So if you want a car to drive, you have the right one.

Drive it, enjoy it, maintain it. Make memories. Some day maybe send it on to its next keeper.

The N52 engine in 3.0si trim is an absolute delight. The Z4 3.0si is a great car by itself, no need to lament missing an M. The only thing I might have done to mine would be to add a limited slip diff. Enjoy the car!

At 73 it is NOT how fast I go anymore! The "si" has plenty of oomph for me and the need of a limited-slip is not an issue! It is fun to drive spiritly on twisty roads, through the week on sunny days, enjoying life! The last thing I want to do is put my beautiful 16-year car in a ditch because my reflexes ain't what they used to be! LOL! BUT, I love how others make their Z's better than stock or race them! Once a "gearhead" always a one.....

I've had mine since 2011 and I've found that it doesn't get the love that the E46 does because it was never really put on the same type of pedestal. The Z4 is kind of an odd duck much in the same way the Z3 was. The base Z4 just isn't a very coveted car compared to the 3 series so the Z4M is often overlooked. It's also far less practical than the M3.

I bought mine for $32k with 8k miles. I could probably sell it for about the same today with 32k miles, though mine has lots of track safety mods. The value has always held steady over the years but I don't see it increasing a whole lot anytime soon. My advice is to drive it and enjoy it. I kept mine in the garage for the first 4 years driving it only on nice days but then I started doing HPDEs with it and got hooked. It mostly does track duty these days (about 6-10 days/year) since that's where a car like this seems to belong.

I've had mine since day 1. Was really hoping to see these hit 100k one day but not very likely. These cars are so much fun to drive although i rarely get to drive mine. I have an m2 comp that is my daily driver, very different driving experience. The M coupes came out at a weird time and they just didn't get the marketing support that they deserved. For the money it is a driving experience that is hard to beat.

How would you compare the Z4M to the M2C? I had been looking hard at the M2C before getting a Z4M.

Different animal altogether. Not sure if that is due to the DCT transmission or not. The DCT can feel clunky at times during normal driving. The M2 feels a lot faster to me but less engaging. There is something about rowing your own gears that is hard to beat. I recommend one of each.

Hey guys. I’ve always had my eye on the E86 M coupe since I sat in one back in the 2000s at the dealer, but couldn’t obviously afford one. And now, a local one popped up on my radar. Been reading through some of the threads and thought this thread may be a proper one to discuss a local finding.

Value wise, I can accept $30-35k for a car of this ‘history’. I don’t want a garage queen. I want to drive the car and have fun at the track. This car has, according to Carfax, ‘minor damage’ to the rear. PPI would be in order if I move forward, and I’ll take my paint gauge to verify all panels for body work/damage.


My question to you all. Does anyone by chance know the owner, or know the vehicle? Just wanting to get more of the ownership history. I noticed it was on the ‘built for backroads’ site for sale, and the super kind people on the site did their best to help me out but no info was found.

Any discussion/advice on this would be great. Hoping to see it and drive it tomorrow.

• Titansilber is a delicious color on these cars. And the red leather, assuming it's in good condition, yummm.
• Wood trim, meh.
• Dash nav, ugh.
• No underside pics -- I'd want to see some to ensure no damage.

Price is not out of line for a clean car with those miles IMO, even with the supposed accident(s). It could have been as simple as replacing the bumper, if even that much. The colors are rare-ish, but the nav brings the value down somewhat.

IDK, it's probably going to be kinda hard to find much about the owner history since it's a 7 owner vehicle with very little reported maintenance history in the carfax report
Not saying this may not be a well maintained and cared for vehicle, but personally, for this rare model, at that price point, I'd be looking for a vehicle with a more proven maintenance history and far fewer owners. Good luck with your search...

That's a good point. I noticed the history as well. But I figured maybe check it out first and get it inspected.

Do you guys find that Z4M prices are stable? Definitely no where near Z3M S54 prices.

Z4MC prices are moving with inflation but not much more. Folks keep waiting for them to be discovered and the prices to fly to the moon, but my money is on that not happening for a long, long time if ever. Meanwhile they remain one of the great bargains in the entire historical BMW lineup. They are special cars.

Price is in the realm of reason but, to me, the value would be dependent on the accident and PPI. That's where the personal gut check comes in.

Most owners did at least 1 service which was reasonable (assuming no problems crept up) for their length of ownership. Nothing reported at all for owner 2, though. Then again, it is CarFax and it doesn't necessarily show all history.

Definitely mention the rear accident to whomever does the PPI. It should be easy to check for signs of damage/repair if it is was more than cosmetic. .

FWIW, the side bolster on the driver's seat looks like it is in good shape. Or at least it is not smashed/creased.

Like someone mentioned, post it in the regional forums to see if anyone bites. We're a small group so it might take a while. You could also try searching the forum to see if someone on the board mentioned selling their Moupe that had a similar color combo around those times.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I’ve always wanted a s54 vehicle. Could never afford one back in the 2000’s. Now I’m just back and forth between a e46 and a e86.
