Just had Vanos and bearings done.
Just in case anyone curious. My bearings at 56,000km. Tracked a few times but really a garage Queen. Over-serviced to to max. Owned since new. Castol oil change every 1500-2000. Always warmed up before pushed. Oil analysis every oil change. No warning signs. Didn't look as bad as I expected. [IMG][/IMG] |

No copper visible but the wear is definately starting, even on this pampered garage queen with the ultra frequent oil changes.
So that 80,000km or 50k miles as a recommended interval by lots of specialists isn't that crazy. Imangine that there are also 150k+ miles cars out there without rodbearing refreshes...little ticking timebombs

Mine is at 125K and I can't find evidence that it's ever been done. Top of the list of things to do ASAP.

It seems like these are a 60K mi wear item like a timing belt in some cars. No questions about it.
It's a bit scary to talk with Z4-M owners who are flippant about this issue :/ |

Buddy of mine has 130k on his tracked Z4M on the stock rod bearings. Scary to say the least. |

Over hyped problem in my opinion. Just because a bearing has visible wear doesn't mean it was about to catastrophically fail. How many motors have actually failed or even developed a rod knock?
Also, I fail to see how changing oil at 2,000 miles helps. Waste of oil... |
