Its not likely that the dealership will be able to detect the software change but its not impossible. Should you need your ecu flashed back to stock for any reason, its free. To flash the tune back onto your ecu, there will be a charge (I still have to work out the numbers on this price). Those of you who have the scoop already and want the tune, just ship your ECU to:
Race Precision Inc. 7029 Marcelle Street Paramount, CA 90723 Include your name, year of car, manual or auto trans, payment/contact info and shipping address. Turn around time is about 1-2 days before its shipped back to you. Even though the gains are only showing a peak of 22whp+, the gains are THROUGHOUT the entier powerband so you ARE going to feel a pretty drastic change in torque/hp. |

And that is without software really re learning that much (drove it for 30 miles i think) so you can expect more HP/TQ, i was really surprise and still am till today on how the car pulls and pulls but the drive is still smooth my observation so far is the torque pulls at 1400 rpm and very quick to launch, hp/ tq is across the band...

Yea I'll be at RPI at 11 AM tomorrow. Chris if you're able to drop by tomorrow that would be awesome.
Eloy - I'm going to hold off on the software for a little bit til I check out Chris' car first. I'll probably end up getting it sometime in the summer before M Fest in August.

Great gains and great products!!! For me it is a little to expensive and difficult to be without a working car while this gets flashed.
Just a comment, but if the ECU flash were in the $600 range I think almost all the Z4M owners would be jumping on board. |

I think for the money its a nice addition and a nice option. I think the lack of people willing to spend money on mods and worry about having there car out of commission for a few days are what keep many tuners from making products for small market like the Z4M cars. We should be embracing these companies not complaining. Remember these are $50k NA cars the performance mods are going to cost a few buck. The R&D that goes into projects like these take lots of sales just to break even on. |

I agree with almost everything you said. That being said I came from the Nissan community before getting the Z4M. I had a heavily modified FI Nissan show car. One thing I've noticed is that even for relatively unpopular nissans, the modifications on BMWs are way out of proportion to what they were on Nissans for what is in my opinion similar quality products. I have no problems spending money on mods (given that I spent roughly 35K in parts alone on my last car but I don't think the parts are fairly priced or worth it in most cases. I think the aftermarket guys are milking the fact that they are making parts for BMWs and if you were to look at those companies that also produce parts for none BMWs you may find the prices quite different because like you said this is a 50K car and therefore they have decided you should pay more. Perhaps if these companies priced their parts a little more competitively, more Z4M buyers would buy the products and they wouldn't have to rely on a fewer owners to make larger profits from. With all that said, I think this ECU flash/scoop/filter is a bargain if you look at the dollar per hp gain. |

Will there be any difference in tune for us that have 93 octane at our disposal?
Laidback also made mention of an exhaust.... being that he is working so closely with you guys in all of your R&D is that a hint that there is perhaps an exhaust in the works? I would love to see a grouping of tune, scoops, exhaust for around $2000, and a gain of around 25 whp....

Oh, and I also read on bimmerfest that the tune is preset for redline to be at 8k rpm's.... is there any way that we could raise that to 8200 rpm's? I believe that is what ESS sets theirs at - I'm not sure if that really makes much sense to do but for whatever reason I get excited at the thought of revving and hearing the engine that extra 300 rpm's...

It would be great if you could buy an extra ECU and have that sent in for a flash and keep your stock chip totally stock. Anyone know where you can get an ECU at a good price?
