Ok so I removed the built in screw, replaced it with a new one, new washer and nut as well, worked just fine. The BST has been replaced and car fired up right away. I obviously still have the air bag light on. I’m gonna observe all this week to see if I continue having the electrical symptoms. Once I get the scanner I’ll clear the codes and take it from there. Thanks to all those that took the time to respond in this thread. Without you, I doubt I would’ve been able to replace the BST.

I always thought this wreaked of over-engineering. Does anyone know what other manufacturers provide a BST equivalent? I also wonder if it has really saved lives.

You're right.
I thought this was just one of those new things that all cars now have, like fly-by-wire throttle. Or maybe a new DOT requirement. Every Google hit for "Battery Safety Terminal" has BMW in the title. Further evidence to support bypassing it.
