What?? BMW started by assembling British cars...

I found this very interesting article about BMW's history that claims:

Bavarian Motor Works, was established in 1916, producing first engines for aircraft and then for motorcycles. It moved into automobiles in the 1920s, assembling for the German market small British cars under license. BMW began to manufacture cars of its own design in the 1930s

Well, BMW at the end, is now assembling British cars again! (Mini and Rolls Royce)

BMW's first car was Austin 7 clone named BMW Dixi. I am surprised BMW fans dont know this.

Did you also know that BMW almost cease to exist? Just before the Neu Klass (the 1500s, 2002s) BMW was almost sold to Diamler Benz. Yikes.

Interesting - I googled the images of both the Austin 7 and the BMW Dixi (they're slightly different though):
